Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Question on yard sales..

We have it a little easier in that we will move from a house to an apartment for about 6-8 months before going to the RV.. (If you call that easier- at least it's gradual.)  BUT a lot of you stated you had several yard sales?   Did you do some before, after, durring the sale of the house?   We are just getting ready to put our house up in March and finding that we already have tons of yard sale material.  Also.. how did that auction work out for you?  We'll have a lot of furniture.   We thought we'd try to sell some of the nicer pieces via ads, then unsure.

Hi Guys,  we did the yard sell over one week-end and in 9 hours over two days and sold everything except a few items.   We did advertise in the local paper.   What we didn't sell we gave it to Goodwill and wrote it off our Tax.   I would start now,  and get rid of everything except family things.   When you go into a RV space will be limited.   At the end of the sell we had sold over $12,000 dollars.  That don't count the Tax write off.   Good Luck.   GBY....

For your more collectable or niche market items don't forget eBay. Even large lawn power equipment. I have been stunned at the value I received for such items on eBay. Of particular note were large power lawn items I sold "for pick up at my place only" and were bid up to nearly what I paid on sale new! You will get a much higher return on all your items on eBay as there is a vastly larger market than your local yard sale. However, you will have to deal with packing and shipping (though eBay makes the UPS or USPS postage a snap). You can also start reducing bit-by-bit this way to ease into the reduction process.

We had several yard sales after we let our 2 boys pick what they wanted. I went in it with the idea of not pricing items real high but not to low that we were giving things away. We were able to sell everything but a Queen size sofa couch and we gave that to Mission of Arlington and took a Tax right off. We down sized the computer to a lap top and took the old computer in to Best Buy (The Geek Squad) and had the hard drive wiped out so that none of our information was left and sold it to a used computer store. We then went to new cell phones and the wireless card (Cingular) and gave the old cell phones to a shelter for abused women. It is amazing what you can live without.
Have fun and I know that you will enjoy full-timing it.

We live in a condominium so yard sales won't work!  The association won't allow yard or garage sales so how are we supposed to get rid of all our furniture and "stuff" that we can't haul with us in the 5th wheel?

Hopefully we can sell some or all of the furniture to the buyer of the condo, but that's not a given.

We will be donating many items to Goodwill, St. Vincent De Paul Society, etc but hope to pickup a few bucks on some of our possessions.  I have thought about E-Bay, but don't have a clue on how to do that!

Any ideas?

Do you know of an auction house in your area. They may advertise as estate sales. We had 2 garage sales and sold the rest in the auction.
