Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
I have noticed some signatures on some of the posts that list the poster's RV, tow vehicle and other interesting stats. Are these manually typed into each post or is it a macro thing?
I am so glad that it has been confirmed "there is no such thing as a dumb question"

Welcome...just go into your "User Details" and do an edit and you will be able to add a signature to your profile. You can also add an avatar if you have one that is small enough to fit. It is nice to have a signature so we can see what everyone if driving or pulling and with what.
Good luck...Joanne

Thank You so much. I should have been able to figure that out, maybe it was too simple and I was looking for complicated.

I learn so much from this forum!!!! It's great to know that I can ask a question and know that I'm going to get help and not some "you're so stupid" reply.
So with that said, what does the avatar mean and then the gif, jpg, jpeg or png mean???
Does this have something to do with being able to put a picture with your signature?
I like the idea of people putting a picture of their RV/truck. I enjoy seeing these. It helps because when trying to decide on a RV, especially a 5er, you can see what others pull and how big a truck they use to pull it with. (great for wannabes)
An "avatar" is the physical manifestation of a deity. In the cyberworld (forums, chat rooms. etc.), the term is now used to mean a graphical or digital representation of the "user".
So it is basically a photo or image used to represent you. In this forum, there is a library of avatar images that can be selected to represent you - several people can use the same image (this is the easiest). Or you can upload a photo or image of your own from your computer.
The file extensions (the letters after the name of a file on your computer) gif, jpg, jpeg, png represent digital image or photo files that are acceptable to upload as your own avatar. Any file with those extensions may be used, but you may have to shrink the image as the size for an avatar is limited. We can help walk you through the process. Or you can email us the image you would like to use (some readers have done this) and we can shrink it and set it up as an avatar for you.
Under the "Pictures" topic in this Forum Tips forum is an explanation of how to insert a photo into your post if the photo is located somewhere on the web (in a photo gallery, for example). That same explanation works for photos in your "signature". Few people have done this, so I am checking into simpler methods.
I decided to use this topic to do my first post so I could check out what my avatar and .sig looked like. Next time I'll try and have something useful to contribute.
