Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Satellite TV channels different every stop

Maybe I need satellite TV for dummies.  I am new to the satellite TV thing. I have the original KingDome in-motion satellite antenna that came with my 2007 Allegro Bus when new.  I arranged DISH network service a year ago opting for the America Top 120 plan (120 channels).  I have driven from one side of the country to the other and sometimes I get the original 120 channels and sometimes I ONLY get about 25 very clear HD channels that are assigned different numbers than my original 120.  I stop and align to the specific region or select ALL REGIONS on the KingDome and it does its thing to get a good signal.  I have updated the zip code in the menu section.  Yesterday I was in Auburn, AL and receiving my 120 channels.  I drove to Birmingham, AL (a couple hours away) and poof I am back to about 25 channels that are crystal clear HD.

What is happening?

BTW:  The funnest reply to this post would be to suggest I call DISH network and discuss it with them.wink

Are you sure when you get the 25 channels that you're on satellite and not just digital antenna TV? That would explain why the 25 channels are crystal clear? Can't really help with the satellite because we are ready to throw ours out the window as well!!

We had a problem similar to yours with our portable satellite and I replaced the cable on the odd chance that it went bad. The cable was bad and we're back to getting all our channels.

Did you call DISH and discuss it with them? They will probably tell you to call KingDome and discuss it with them. smile

Cori what's wrong with your satellite?

I don't know how the in-motion antennas work, but with our Pathways X2 "carry-out" type of antenna, we can receive all of our Dish Network HD channels wherever we are as long as we have a clear shot of the southwestern sky (no trees, buildings, etc.) with the antenna. As we move from one area to another, we have to call Dish to have them change our service location in order to get the local channels via satellite. The reason for this is that local channels are on a spot beam from the satellite that only covers certain geographic areas. When Dish changes our service location (and granted, it usually takes two calls to get them to do it right!), the setup information for the locals from the nearest major TV market area is downloaded to our receiver. Each time I call Dish to do this, I urge them to make this something customers can do by logging into their on-line account (I can change my billing address on-line but not my service address - and that can mess up payments!).

I am not sure why one poster would think u may be getting  25 HD channels through your sat Antenna  all the well running them through your receiver LOL on that idea> however the fact that your getting 25 clear hd channels say the cable is perfect and the signal also. U may have one of the LNB  going bad or bad co ax connection.I  admit its a oddity but sounds like part of sat signal is going bad

I read a article where the remote was set for hd channels only and had to be reset to **all **  maybe double check remote setting

Forgot to ask when this occurs have you tried rebotting the receiver (unplug/replug)

Thanks for all the inputs. I thought maybe it is only getting local channels, but I am getting SEC Network and FNC (both in HD) and they would not be local (I don't think?).

Remote set to HD only? Hmmm…Not sure how to set the remote to HD only, but when I press GUIDE twice I see options to view MY CHANNELS, MY HD CHANNELS, and ALL CHANNELS. When I select ALL CHANNELS, I can see a list of all channels and the ones I cannot receive are colored red. It is as if they are mocking me.

Not sure it could be a bad cable or connection, but with daily earthquakes it is worth checking.

I think I will call DISH and ask them to update my local area (great idea for them to add that option to the user selectable web options!). Wait…let me mix a drink first. Always better to have a beverage handy when calling Dish.

Yes, I have rebooted several times.

Currently Locked on EcoStar NW SAT 129; Strength 43-45%

I am in Alabama and have selected SOUTHEAST REGION on the Kingdome controls

The funny thing is that when I get the American TOP 120 channels as contracted, they are not the crystal clear HD quality I am enjoying on these few stations.  I used the menu to search for local channels and came up with nothing. I did this just to see if somehow I am receiving local content.

you will only get crystal clear HD stations from the ones that are sent via sat in HD mode =sat#129 is 100%  HD      110 and 119 are for the SD regular channels

Iam surprized you get anything with a 45% signal   to get  110 119  etct  u need at least 75% and hopefully 90%  to get all channels your subscribed for

Thanks ticat900. That is logical. I wonder why the DISH tech could not explain it that way?
