Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Need help using wifi Ranger with ethernet connection

The resort we are spending the winter at provides a cable modem for our use for internet.  My documentation that came with my Wifi Ranger says that I should be able to use this, but I haven't been able to get the wifi ranger to recognize the input.  I verified that the signal is good by plugging the Ethernet cable directly into one of our computers.  With the Ethernet cable into the wifi ranger, though (in the LAN5 port - the one that is labeled WFR in a blue square on top of the wifi ranger), it doesn't seem to be recognizing it.

I had previously been using it with the Millenicom aircard, which is how I'm online now.  Do I need to reset the ranger?  When I first click on the Main tab of the wifi ranger control panel, I see the button at the bottom that says "Connect Ethernet WAN", but it quickly disappears when the wifi signals pop up.

I'm sure I'm missing something simple . . . help!

You might need an Ethernet cross-over cable. This is a cable with some wires crossed so the input wires become output wires and vice versa. A store with a good collection of Ethernet cables should have them, specially marked.  Take the cable with you, in case it is a cross-over cable and you need to get a regular Ethernet cable.  You can tell the difference because the wire color order will be different, visible through the transparent plastic end.

Yep -- finally got the answer from Wifi Ranger . . . the WAN port is the one labeled "PoE" (on the original Wifi Ranger Go).

Even after that was straightened out, though, I still wasn't able to get connected, and the Tech determined that my firmware was out of date.  I was unable to get it updated over my internet connection, so he tried, but was unsuccessful, too.  He ultimately determined that my unit was one of a group of early ones that cannot receive firmware updates.  So, they are sending out a replacement Wifi Ranger Go, refurbished.

I'd call that excellent customer service . . . I've had my Wifi Ranger Go for over 2 years!
