Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
It almost scares me thinking people are walking around campgrounds packin guns. I get the pepper spray for animals but if I ever pull into a campground that I feel I should carry a gun I'm pulling out and moving on. Maybe even if the campground is next to an area that makes me feel unsafe I'll just drive away. Lets go for a walk honey,, you grab the dog and I'll grab the gun. Unless I'm in the woods that just doesn't seem right to me. To many places I can be and not look over my shoulder in a campground. Just my opinion.
110% on your side Hdrider.................Too many people playin' "Cowboys & Indians" out there.
Most say....Yeah I'll just sport around my 45 cal and nobody's gonna mess with me.
To many places I can be and not look over my shoulder...
ahhh.. not really, but ok..
Use to be like that.. now it's everywhere, schools, shopping centers, costco's, travel destinations, and yep, campgrounds.Throw in the possible terrorist attack, and there is no place where it does not happen, everyday.
I'm a believer that every american should be ready to protect themselves, and others, at all times... and Pepper spray just may not be enough.

It's sickening to listen to
I think you will find if you look at statistics that holders of concealed carry permits are among the safest and most law abiding people you are likely to meet. Simply looking at "revoked licenses" will yield info that very few are revoked. A license would be revoked for many reasons, but the revocation rate is extraordinarily low. You won't even know that most people are carrying unless they tell you. And those that carry almost never mention it.

It's bragged about on almost every Forum including this one. Why should you even need to "Carry" a Pea Shooter? If I tour around down in the U.S. I can't have one. So if I don't need one why does everyone else around me feel they should need to carry one? I'm sure when a U.S. resident tours up in Canada, they can't carry one. At that point does the U.S. resident feel threatened and powerless without their Pea Shooter?
This will be deleted and/or edited because the moderators are U.S.............................Guaranteed!
But yet those same people will continue to discuss their gun powers on here and other forums.

Bernie,
Your "guarantee" is irrelevant as your comment isn't being deleted nor edited....at least not by me. What is your issue with U.S. citizens anyway?
I've worked for, and recently retired from, a state law enforcement agency that was tasked with the job of issuing concealed carry permits. At least for Oklahoma, I can state that Jack Mayer is exactly right with regards to who are most responsible with the owning and carrying of firearms.
Now, before I get tempted to go back and start deleting comments again, the topic of firearms has taken this thread off on a tangent, so let's get it back onto more reasonable discussions. If you all want to discuss firearms and their usage, join up on some firearms forums. That's where I do my discussions on the topic. But for here, if there are any more firearms related discussions on this thread, I will delete all with a mention of them and close the thread.

Thanks Terry, couldn't have said it better myself. I worried when I started this that it might descend into the usual blather on rights or chest thumping on certain points of view. As I said in the beginning, each of us will have to look inward and learn about one's own fears, especially in the aftermath of such an incident, and do what each of us deems necessary to protect ourselves and our families. Some excellent and thoughtful suggestions have been made. I don't see a need to stoke the fires of paranoia by suggesting that one isn't safe anywhere, from anything or anyone. That discussion belongs elsewhere.

Safety paranoia will drive you crazy. Good use of common sense and environmental alertness, even in the world we live in today, will typically facilitate growing old gracefully. Big guns, big dogs, and a pantry filled for Armageddon is a sign of unhealthy paranoia. Like a computer virus, this mindset is making its rounds. I'm neither professing that you cast fate to the wind or up your Prozac dosage to cope with paranoia. After all, this thread began with a real life incident. An incident that couldn't be predicted and most solutions couldn't have prevented.

Deleted? Why, did I miss the part that warrants deletion?....As far as your comment "need" Their are very few things that any of us actually "need" , Air, Food, Shelter.....those are needs, everything else is just about what each person prefers. We all like different things, believe in different things, and strive for different things, for me those differences are what makes life so fun and interesting....I don't expect anyone to think exactly like me, except my wife, LOL.....Live and let Live, now back on topic, GO USA!!!
I don't want a gun discussion on this forum. But when misinformation is posted I'm going to respond to it, and Terry can decide if he feels it should be deleted. If one is commenting on something then one should be factual or at least not misstate things.

And I certainly didn't mean to say anything against guns because they don't bother me. And I get that anything can happen anywhere. In fact I have a number of retired law enforcement friends that never leave home without them, and I guess if I had people or groups of people in may past that I may have pissed off like they have I might feel the same way. And they are some of the finest people I know as Jack insinuated to.
I simply meant that if I wanted to buy a soda and one store looked like it would be more likely to have trouble by being in a rough area and I felt unsafe I would just drive to a nicer area and buy my soda. Not that something couldn't happen there but maybe less likely.
If my statement made this thread take a different feel I'm sorry. Back to topic I hope everyone is healing well.
It seems to me that the biggest threat to any RVers after the possibility of an accident IS the possibility of a dog attack as Brian originally started this thread about. We should keep to the subject.

In conclusion: we have talked about gun-toting and unarmed, citizen and non-citizen people, dogs and other critters (and my attack cat) and we have strayed so far from the original subject I'm already in orbit around Pluto (which I believe has been demoted to a non-planet). Therefore, to end my confusion, my best wishes for a quick recovery to our friends and fellow dreamers, thank you for letting us know what happened because we will be more alert in our travels.
