Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
In our RV we have a standard microwave/convection oven. I do not mind using it, but it really seems to heat up the RV. I was looking into getting a toaster oven, but I have never used one. I found some at Walmart for around $39 dollars. Anyone ever use one? If so i would love a recomendation.
Main thing I want is to try and keep the RV from getting so warm. We have a 3 burner gas and are going to change that to an induction stove top, hoping it will also help.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. The heat is welcome in the winter, but not so much during the summer.
Thanks,
Patti

We gave up on cheap toaster ovens since they toasted unevenly and the temperature settings were not reliable. We use a Breville Smart Oven, it will do a 13" pizza and about anything else we want. But, it does put out heat and ours cost $250.

Placing the toaster oven or cooking appliance on the burner area and turning on the vent will lower the heat being displaced.........I do like others have said and take it outside , during good weather most all my cooking is done outside anyway (except the first coffee!!)

We're with Bill Joyce on the Breville if you have space for it. I bake in it all the time too. And you can get a single or double burner induction cooktop to set on your burner covers if you wish. Can also be taken outside for cooking in nice weather.

Another vote for the Breville SmartOven 800…we don't have a regular oven and use it for everything from baking to broiling (when I'm too lazy to fire up the grill for the burning meat) to toasting. The convection microwave is used almost solely as a microwave.
Breville BOV800XL Smart Toaster Oven is the best product known to me so far.. It has auto-eject wire rack, removable crumb tray, pizza pan, baking pan, and broil rack included.. It is very easy to clean and the controls are very intuitive.
It is less than 1/2 the weight of the more expensive Brevile, at only 4 lbs. It has a 2 year warranty. It has a stainless finish so it looks nice and is easy to clean. It has "even bake" technology for more even toasting. There's no expensive circuit board or digital display to go out and spend money repairing - it's bullet proof. And after a few years when it's all grungy and nasty, with little bits of carbonized cheese stuck in the corners and crevices where you can't clean, you won't feel bad about throwing it in the trash and buying a new one.
My last cheap toaster oven I had for a few years caught on fire, because I forgot some garlic toast inside and stupidly didn't set the timer (hey, it can happen to anyone). I just opened up the kitchen door and threw it outside till it went out. I didn't even bother trying to clean it as it was cheap and had served me well for a number of years, so I just replaced it with one of these. If I'd have paid $250 for one I'd have had to spend a $30 fire extinguisher just putting it out - and then there would be the mess to clean up - yuck!
Just a different perspective, but sometimes the simple, durable, inexpensive choice beats the fancy, full-featured expensive one. Plus the $225 you save will buy a lot food to cook in it (or beer to drink with your toasty pizza, garlic bread, etc. - and you've got another 5 lbs of carrying capacity to carry that extra six pack with you too.) ;) IMHO.

We use a medium price Black and Decker toaster oven. Large enough for baking several potatoes if needed. But we also have a convection microwave oven that works great. Instead of using the gas cooktop, we use 2 induction cooktops that don't create unneeded heat. We use about 1- 40lb LP gas bottle a year but we stay primarily on full hook-ups too where electricity usage isn't an issue.
