Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Request update on satellite broadcasting

I'm looking for any Canadian Snowbirds or FT using satellite dish to obtain tv broadcasting when they are outside Canada.

Since Dhaw Direct was the last to provide satellite tv service outside Canada.  I would like to know from any user if they still have the service since the CRTC obliged the broadcaster to stop providing service outside Canada.  The last I heard was that Shaw Diirect had announced that they would follow the directives and stop as of the end of december 2013.

I know that some associations said they would speak to the CRTC and provide enough arguments to reverse their decision.  If there's any Canadian Snowbirds in the USA at this present time, I would like to ear from them about the situation.  Are you still receiving tv broadcast, what type of equipement and the provider.

Hi Jean. We currently have coverage in Quartzsite AZ and have been Shaw Direct customers since 2010 when we started full timing. At that time we used a home address for billing purposes but told them that we were full timing in an RV. They required the VIN # from our 5th wheel. I don't know if this is currently acceptable. We had gone to Shaw because we had heard that Bell would cut you off if they found out you were in the States.

I have heard that Shaw has recently changed their policy so that if you move your system from your home address to a different location (ex: summer cabin) they want to charge an additional fee. I am currently afraid to contact them in case I rock the boat. In the past when in different time zones I would have to phone them to have my receiver updated to the zone I was in. Right now I'm out by an hour. Last April Shaw launched a new satellite for additional HD channels. My understanding is that this is the satellite that has coverage in Canada "only" and to get these additional channels you have to upgrade your receiver and LNB.

Cheers,

Steve

Thanks for the reply Steve.

Actually I'm still in the preparation phase for FT wich should be between june and sept 2015.  I've been following this satellite topic in the news  for a while because I intend to get the poper equipement when time arrive.  We are from the province of Quebec and we intend to FT and be snowbirds during the winter season, 6 months south and the rest in Canada with some short trip in the USA.  I just wanted to know if their will be a satellite provider, equipement ain't cheap therefore I need to make sure I'll be able to get a provider.
