Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
I had my harddrive crash on me . While thats ugly enough, no computer for 3 days, ((phone only) boy was it ruff)), I did lose some stuff, about the last week or so of documents and mess but most of my stuff survived. Something to think about as you scan photos, create documents to eliminate paper, etc is to have back-up files either online- Cloud etc, or on another portable hard drive- Passport, or something. Alot of stuff we get rid of, thinking a disc or thumb drive is safe. Things get hot, melt, get ate by dogs, etc.
Hard drive crashed due to heat and cat hair, go figure...
Very very sorry. Yea, we, and by we I mean Linda and I, run dual hard drive backups on the trailer network. Cloud is fine if you don't have too much stuff. But we have way too much to do "cloud" the way we operate among other issues.. The iPhone's are likewise backed up real often when we sync the calendars. Almost daily.
Very good advice. Drives will fail and so with smart phones. Even Apples Question is when - not if the computer or phone will fail.
Carbonite is a cloud-based backup system that costs only about $50 per year. It automatically backs up all your photos, documents, etc. I think they have a more expensive deal that will make a mirror image of everything on your hard drive including software if you want that level of backup. I have had Carbonite for two years now and when I killed my laptop everything was backed up and ready to download to the new one. It also allows you to log in from any computer if you want to access documents, photos, etc. from somewhere else.

I have so many photos and other files of large size that we would likely be maxed out pretty quickly. The only advantage might be that on later "back-ups," the system would only back up the recently changed or added files. The initial backup would be a killer in my case. Jo and I are on Verizon's MiFi with the Jetpack and we also have three phones between us and our youngest son. However, it is Jo and I that use the most data and our data plan with Verizon is now up to about 14 gb per month.
I think I spend too much time on forums.
