Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Starting slow and small...but need advice

I took the plunge and bought a 34' TT.  Since I moved back to Nashville last week my new boss sold me his TT, for 1500.00 I couldnt pass it up.  Perfect condition with a super slide.

Of course I am still working but going to be living out of the camper for the next couple of years until I can upgrade to a 5er.  My questions come as I think of them...lol.

1.  I will be in Goodlettesville campground for the time... is 450.00 a month high to pay?  Its 30 amp.

2.  It doesnt have cable... can anyone tell me a good service to go with and about how much does it cost to have installed?  I will be leaving it parked there since I will not be leaving my work anytime soon.

3.  Same question for internet...They have WiFi, but dont guarentee it unless going up to the office.  I am on my laptop all the time and would enjoy the sitting in my own space on it other than running up to the office to get signal.

4.  How costly will it be to gut it?  It has the original couch and booth type dinette which I dont really want and carpet.  So I would rather put in a loveseat and standing island I have already priced out... but the problem will be the flooring and the bedroom.  Bedroom has no slide out or closet only those 2 little closets on each side of bed.  Has anyone ever remodeled that?

Thank you all for your help in this!!

Forgot to add... everything is in excellent shape and looks brand new, plus they just rebuilt the fridge. I wouldnt really need to replace but just not how I want it to be, so will. PLUS the not closet space in the bedroom would become an issue between work clothes and church clothes. (and shoes) I am really not willing to part with right now.

Congrats on the great deal on the travel trailer.  I cannot give you advice on gutting the trailer.  However I have experience in your other 3 questions.

1.  450.00 could be reasonable in FL.  You should call 3 or 4 nearby campgrounds and find out.  Ask questions if cable, wifi, and electric is included.  In Savannah my calls for 3 campgrounds found out I would pay from $400 to $650 a month with cable, wifi, but no electric.

2.  No cable is not good for a long term campground stay.  You should ask the campground if it it cable ready.  If so call the cable company and pay for cable.  If not cable ready, then sattalite tv is another option.  There are alot of tv shows available on the internet between hulu, rocku, and netflix.

3.  Wifi.  I have had intermittent wifi in my last two campgrounds.  My previous campground was cable ready so I paid for DSL internet thru the cable company.  My current campground does not have the DSL cable option so I added a 5GB jet pack thru verizon for $50.  You should not be downloading movies on a 5 GB limited internet though.  Also ask if your campground is telephone capable.  You could possibly receive DSL internet thru the phone company.

as far as flooring is concerned, have you considered Laminate? We have it in our MH and it is is pretty nice. Most carpet places sell it as well as install it, same with some of the big box stores like Lowes and Home Depot. They should have no trouble installing it in a travel trailer but if you cannot find anyone maybe the local RV dealer can help locate someone if you don't want to tackle it yourself.

The interiors of RV's is not a huge thing to remodel as long as you still want the bedroom, kitchen and bath in the same area as they are now. Not sure what your ideas are in the bedroom, maybe move the bed pedestal completely against one wall so you have room on one side for a larger closet? Not sure you would gain that much room doing it that way though. One thing you could do pretty easily is to attach one of those shoe organizers (the kind that have little pockets to put the shoes into) to the bathroom or bedroom door to help save some of the closet space. We also use totes to store our "off season" clothes in. We put the totes in one of our basement storage compartments but perhaps there is room under your bed to store them? Just a thought.

Phil

ps: the monthly price for the site does not seem to be out of line for that area, does it include your electric or is it extra each month?

On your cable. Don't get it unless you are a die hard sports fan. Go pick up a 30.00 antenna that you can mount on the roof and you can get all the local channels in HD straight from the air. You are in a major city so it should be crisp and clear. We are 40 miles from the tower and get great reception. Then if you have some favorite shows you have to see and not on regular stations get huluplus for 8.99 a month. save yourself 50.00-60.00 a month. We have been doing it for a year and do not miss our cable at all. We see all our favorite shows when we want to.
