Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Wife is Not Happy Tonight.

Jo ordered one of the Kindle Fire HD units and we got it today.  Plugged it in at noon and as of 7:00 pm, she is having problems.  It works fine as long as it is plugged into power.  When she unplugs it and it then happens to go to sleep, it won't come on again unless she plugs the thing back into the power again.

Looks like she will be contacting Amazon about this within the next day or so.

I thought I would post this in case anyone here had experienced the same issue.  On one forum she checked, it was mentioned to hold the power button for 20 seconds and it would work.  She has tried that and it still doesn't work.

No problem with ours , got it a few weeks ago, Amazon is good with problem resolution, I am sure they will take care if it promptly.

Jo sent a message via the computer to Amazon last night, and before she even got out of her chair, her phone was ringing.  It was Amazon asking about the problem.  Within 5 minutes, they had asked their questions and made the arrangements for sending a new unit and providing Jo with a printable label for sending back the old one.

I feel it is very likely that Amazon will quickly resolve her disappointment.  We've always had good luck with Amazon in the past, although we've never had to return anything.

Things are definitely looking up.

Speaking of "looking," my cataract surgery on my left eye is this morning.  I should have x-ray vision after this, right?

Actually, even if I still have to wear glasses, it's not a big thing to me.

Hi Terry,

Hope your surgery went well! And glad you got the Kindle to be replaced.

One of the reasons we shop from Amazon is they will step up and help when things go wrong. If Amazon has it that's where we get it. We have had to return several things over the last couple of years and it has never been a problem. I think they are particularly sensitive to doing the right thing with their own products. I hope she enjoys her Kindle fire.

Janie,

Jo has become a tech-no-freak.  She already has her smart phone set up to read books as well as a tablet where she can as well.  I have no idea WHY she needs yet another reader.

(I better shut up....

....I have more than one camera.)

While not perfect, the eyes are still excellent.  In the past, I was considered "legally blind" with 20-400 vision.  Today, as we were driving down for the first follow-up eye doctor visit, I was able to read a banner sign on a building roughly 1/4 mile away.  Yes, it was big letters, but my right eye saw nothing but a blur.  That eye is focused for closer viewing.

The eyes will be at least another week for healing, but my eye tests in the doctor's office was roughly 20-25, although the letters were still blurred.  I see my regular optometrist on the 28th and will likely find out that I will need prescription reading glasses and some kind of prescription for further distances, or another set with bifocals.  I have to be able to see well both for shooting firearms and for viewing nature and taking pictures.

I found out today that when cataract surgery began, there were three doctors nationwide doing the work.  One of them, Dr. Miller (no relation) went searching for another eye doctor to come to Oklahoma City for learning and to commit to joining his practice for a specified time.  My doctor, Dr. David Mallory, was the doctor that he found in his nationwide search.  I highly recommend Dr. Mallory.

I love pioneers.  Partly because some of my own family were "pioneers" by moving into unknown areas and homesteading on land for farming.

Thanks for asking.  Now, if I can get past the "endless regimen" of eye drops, things will really be great for me.

Oh, there is another reason for me to be kind to Jo.  She "threw me another bone" after she told me she ordered the Kindle Fire.  So, I'm now the proud possessor of a Nikon SB-600 remote flash unit for my Nikon D300.  We got it used, but it will still actually cost more than her Kindle did.

Which is a similar situation to the last "bone she threw" when she ordered a Nikon 70-200, f-2.8 telephoto lens for my birthday.  It seems she had also ordered herself another laptop and thought she ought to be nice to me.  On that occasion, my lens was more expensive than her laptop.
