Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Hacked E Mail Accout

Don't know if you heard about disabling your JAVA; not javascript. java was on the news and on the computer world and PC magazine website. All you need to do is go to the start menu click control panel, then locate programs & accessories click and scroll down and find java. right click and remove. DON"T REMOVE JAVASCRIPT.

My G-mail account on my blog has been apparently hacked and apparent spam has been sent to folks in my address book.  How does one rectify this?

Thanks!

I might would be inclined to wait before removing any services or software just yet.  Give those manufacturers/services a chance to address any problems that they may have and perhap send out updates to fix those problems.

We have similarly been hacked before.  Basically, they just get into our e-mail address book and send messages to many of the people there.  We've usually been told that someone on our list got a spam e-mail, so we would send a message to most of them telling them to delete any messages that only contained spam or just a link.  We never send an e-mail without explaining what any enclosed link is all about.

One funny with our issue.  Our primary e-mail account is through AOL, and that service ADDS the e-mail addresses of anyone that we send messages to, even if it is only a one time deal.  Well, Jo and I had sent off a whole bunch of messages expressing our displeasure with some legislation that was being considered by our legislature for passage into law.  Well, guess where most of those messages went?  Yep, our legislators were contacted with a spam mail because of that.  I imagine that occurs a lot in the legislature.

I would suggest that one look at their e-mail address book and remove any that are not really people or businesses or organizations that one normally contacts.

Ditto what Karen says.  Just change the password to your account and the hackers can't get access to it. Until you do that nothing will change from what I've heard and folks on your contact list will continue to get the spam.  Also make sure you give your computer a good virus scan just in case something is on there that sends your new password to the hackers.

There is a farily easy solution to this problem that costs around $4-5/month. It would be to buy our own domain that comes with email accounts.  As an example:  Purchase a domain called Bubba.com and then set up your email account named myemail.inbox@bubba.com

I have been doing this for 5 years and never once had a single spam email. Depending on the domain host, you might get a free website service.  With that, it is possible to convert blogs to a personal website.

Old Snipe....perchance do you happen to be on Facebook.....

my experience has been when I start getting those spam type emails from folks....it is because they have FB and then the email address they use for FB starts sending out spam msgs to everyone in their address book......

so if this is your situation....change the FB password....

 SPAM ALERT!!!f

 George,

It's not a spam comment.  Old Snipe's original comment was about G-mail, a part of Google and markspend1 simply provided a link to some information
