Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Bill, thanks, I was hoping you would check in, I figured it was something like that, I will remove a panel and see if a KD Box is visible......G Or is the KD Box under the Dome?

In our seasonal site heavily wooded, before the leaves came in the Kingdome was able to lock on, we have two TV,s. no HD. As the leaves filled in the signal became weaker until No picture......I believed we ALMOST had a clear line but since the Kingdome could not be moved from its posistion it was just missing. I purchased a standard Directv dish with tripod, it has two LNB connectors. I went up on my roof, placed the new dish in a different location that I thought would work, had my finder, within 2 minutes I locked in. Now I had to get the signal into my Rig, I went to the Kingdome, two connectors on the side, MAIN---AUX. I disconnected from the KD and connected with a dual thread connector the two feeds to the new dish. The bedroom TV went right on. The living room said searching for signal. HMMM. So I went back up switched the connection (swap) still only TV in the bedroom, this tells me the dish is sending signal through both feeds. What am I missing, thoughts, thanks, Gene

Hi Gene:

Best guess assuming I am following you correctly as to the problem: The cable does not go directly to the front receiver.  It probably is still going through the KD control box (somewhere) and not direct to the receiver; hence no signal.  You may need to “jump out” the KD control / power box.

BTW, your experience with the KD antenna is not unusual.  Due to their smaller size they don’t have a lot of head room with the signal from the satellite.  Almost any drop in signal level, like from leaves, will cause the received signal to drop below the threshold of operation.

Or is the Control Box the actual wall mounted LED unit I power the system up with? G

Just thinking out loud...some DirecTV receivers can detect the dish and make internal settings based on what it finds. You might try a power cycle on the receiver once you have the antenna hooked up and see if anything changes.

Based on the units I am familiar with, yea, it’s the box you “turn it on” with that is the problem.  You might also try, just for a test, run the cable from the dish directly to the back of the receiver and see if that works.  If it does, well, then there is most likely a “box” for the KD in the coax line in the rig somewhere.  The comment about having to set the receivers for the correct type of dish is correct.  However, it is (usually) not good to use an auto sense IMO.  The 18” portable dish and the KD setting “should” be the same.  Lots of variations with this stuff as it has great flexibility and hence a lot of potential settings.  We'll try the simple stuff first {Grin}
