Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Sattelitte TV HELPP

Gene,
When you say Cat5 (Cat5 is a computer cable and looks like a cable with a large phone type connector at each end) do you really mean that you are dealing with the coax cables that run from a satellite dish to a satellite receiver?  What do you mean by getting a signal to the pedestal?  Are you trying to get satellite to 2 TV's with one receiver or is there 2 receivers, one at each TV?  I assume you are not using the outside connection for the outside TV.  If so, what are the outside connections labeled that you are connecting to?

Long story short....New 2012 Artic Fox 29L Travel Trailer, stationary. Was hooking up Directv, outside unit two Cat5 connections . Inside One TV in LR, One TV in BR. Exterior has one hookup for mounting a TV to the side of the unit and watching outside. Got my signal to the pedestal, hooked up to both outside cat5 locations, went inside, only the LR TV went on. I then isolated which connection that fed the BR TV. Tried to Ring out ( test signal) from outside to bedroom, got nothing.....I then decided there must be a damaged wire,,,,,so I ran a new cat5 from the outside to the bedroom, I just abandoned the old Cat 5 run....then I plugged everything in..The Bedroom TV went on immediately, no problem. Now here is where it gets confusing, I speak to the guys at Artic Fox, in the Bedroom there are Two Cat 5 connectors, they are telling me that the two need to be bridged to get TV in the bedroom, and the second outside connection fed the exterior mounting option......I just would like to know if this wiring sequence makes sense.....I always thought TWO OUTSIDE CONNECTION, TWO INSIDE TV's...simple....Thanks, G

Interesting. One must remember that the folks who design these RV's typically don't understand TV connections at all. I hope you can figure it out or at the least, make it work!

Gene,

In the compartment for water and tank controls of our Mobile Suites they put in a cable connection and two satellite connection sockets.  In our case, Direct TV uses both of those satellite connections.  I can't explain why as I've not kept up with TV technology over the years.  I think they tend to feed two inputs to the main TV and then branch off in some way to the bedroom TV from there.

I'll have to check on my home computer later, but I may have something of a wiring diagram of the systems.  No promises on that one as I don't remember what all the maintenance documents are that I have on the hard drive.

Jack Mayer has a wealth of information on his website, so maybe he has something along those lines.

Sorry Bill, I meant to say Coaxial....., each TV needs it's own box, also Home runs to the dish, no signals can be split I have recently learned. Outside the TT behind a weather proof door there is a label "SATTELITE READY" with two Coax connections, I assumed one connection went to the LR, the other to the BR. What Northwood is telling me----one connection went to the LR, the other went to the outside TV ...they are telling me that in order to get TV in the bedroom the two coax connections that I see in the bedroom must be joined into one, then feed the box.....They must somehow have brought it from the LR to the BR, not directly from the outside.....

If you have 2 outside inputs you cannot have 3 inside outputs as this would require some special hardware known as a multiplexer. It's highly unlikely that this is in your coach so it might be possible that the jumper you are talking about eliminates one of the connections and feeds it to a second.
Let us know if are are able to get things working following their directions. If not, I can provide you with some information on how you might be able to jury rig a setup to bring a separate coax to the receiver which is not working.
