Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Verizon Charging to pay your bill online

Just heard on tonight's news that verizon customers are going to be charged $2.00 each time they pay their bill onlineevileye. I guess it's cheaper for them if you mail in a check....go figure.

So the bottom line is you're being charged to pay your billconfuse

These added fees that keep coming up are a bit much!

As a long time Verizon customer I will be the first in line to call and ask that this charge be waived, reversed or credited. Every single Verizon customer should do the same thing. There's nothing like getting the word out about such stupidity and getting a ground swell of customer complaints to make a company reconsider a bad decision.

Why not just use auto-pay? Then you don't have to worry about it.

There are ways around the fees but the point is companies keep coming up with them. As Bill stated above complain, complain, complain. It got B of A to back off their ATM fee at least until they come up with something else.

I do what Racerguy mentions - my Verizon and several of my other bills are set for auto pay and go right on my credit card. Then I pay them all at once with the payment to my credit card (using my cu's online banking). So easy and I earn points from my credit card too. :)

Originally, it was posted elsewhere that the auto pay had to be by electronic check. The details appear to be that ANY auto pay plan including credit or debit card will not incur this fee. That works for me as I have always had my account setup to auto pay.
I will still be watching my bill to ensure they get it right and keep it right, but otherwise this should have no effect on my current bill.

Many of the utility companies have gone to the fee to pay online. They use a 3rd party service to process the payments. The fee pays for the 3rd party company's service. If you read between the lines the utilities really want you to use auto pay so they don't have to be involved. They are also pushing paperless billing. They're trying whatever they can to save money/reduce costs...LOL.

Auto pay through your bank or a service is the way to go... save some trees so we can enjoy them when we camp.

CNN just reported Verizon is scraping their proposed $ 2.00 fee. I guess they got a lot of feedback LOL!

I guess this is just a personal preference or perhaps, concern.  We give NO ONE access to our accounts via direct billing when a mistake just  takes your money and you have to get it back.  That’s what they wanted, not just “electronic checks” which is what we use.

We're just not comfortable giving anyone access to what is in essence, using the old term, “my checking account.”  It’s a lot harder to get it back than it is to never give it if there is an issue.

May have to change in the future, but not yet.

Our 2 cents

Bill and Linda,as you said it's personal preference and I'm not trying to change any ones mind.We all know what we are comfortable with.Just thought I'd let those who don't know how auto pay works.I get an e-mail that my statement is available for viewing 2 weeks before it is withdrawn from my account. I feel this gives me plenty of time to dispute any charges I feel are unwarranted.:)

We heard the same news story tonight. It seems that Verizon was inundated with "unfavorable" comments. Maybe I'm too cynical, but I think we're going to take an extra few minutes with each bill for the next few months just to be sure that some other fee didn't sneak in while everyone was looking at this one.
