Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Droid Phone as Wi-Fi Hotspot

I know this topic has been discussed, but I'm still confused.  Is a Droid phone able to be used as a wi-fi hotspot to connect more than one laptop to the internet.  If so, how did you go about getting it to work.  How does this affect your data usage on your plan?  Do you get unlimited usage and how fast is it?  We're trying to find the best way to get the most usage for the best price.

Thanks!  This technology stuff can be so confusing confuse

Some Verizon phones, which means more than Droids, can be set up as wi-fi hotspots as can the Verizon iPhone. They call it "3G Mobile Hotspot" and it costs $20 per month and is limited to 2GB per month and each additional GB is $20. The speeds should be about the same as an aircard. They really want you to get a MiFi or aircard where the plans are $35 for 3GB (MiFi only), $50 for 5GB or $80 for 10GB with each additional GB is $10. If you only have one laptop or don't have to be online at the same time get PDAnet or Easytether, which uses your Droid as a modem through USB.

(I have Best Buy's Mobile Buyer's Guide in front of me for numbers that I picked up free a couple days ago.)
