Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Need help dvd please

Hello,

We just got our fifth wheel a month ago in Ohio and we live in Canada.  When we piked it up on june 26th we stayed on a camping close to the dealer for 5 days to take care of small issues.  One of them was the DVD player, the thing is that the picture jumps about every two or three seconds.  The dealer changed the DVD for a new one and when we tried it, it was ok.  But, when we got home, it did the same thing...bummer...

Now, something else whent wrong.  Yesterday, when I got in the rig (it is parked in my driveway), the batery was all empty, no more power.  Then, I noticed that my DVD player/radio whas lit up and making a strange buzz sound!  No way to turn it of!  That was strange, everything else on electricity was down.  We had to pull it from the wall and take some wires out to stop it.

What we did after was to put a new fuse (the old one looked good...) and we repluged it.  It worked OK but, it still had a jumpy picture.

Do you know what could be wrong with it?

Check all the connections to make sure they are secure and make sure it runs directly to the TV not through a VCR.  Running through a VCR will sometimes cause the anticopy software to activate.

Also try doing a hard reset on the DVD unplug for 30 secondes and plug back in.

Thank you JB,

We did the reset and that part only made it possible to turn off.  We will check all the connections, we started to but there are so many!  I dont understant what you mean by running through the tv and not a VCR.?

Are you playing a DVD that was recorded by a studio or one recorded by a consumer.

Consumer recorded DVDs, especially if they have a stick on label will do what you describe.

A studio recorded DVD is best to use to determine if there is a problem with the player or DVD.

Hopefully you've tried several different DVDs. If you're still getting the problem on all DVDs, it's a player problem. Have the dealer hook up the player outside of the RV using direct house current (not through an inverter/converter) and a different TV. If the problem doesn't happen then it's either a power quality problem or connections to the TV.

If the DVD player is not directly connected to the TV, say it goes through a switcher and then to the TV, the DVD copy guard may kick in. The copy guard will come on if the player thinks it's connect to a recording device. Sometimes the switcher may confuse the DVD player into thinking it's connected to a recording device. Hook the DVD player directly to the TV.

I would have the dealer change to a 110V DVD player, instead of a 12V player. Use an inverter to convert from 12V to 110V to be able to use the DVD player when not connected to 110V. The 12V DVD players if connected to an always hot power source will continue to run.

Do you have a vcr hooked to the tv? I sure that is what he meant.

Wow, this thing is complicated...

Yes we did try about 5 dvds and they are originals and they do run well in our home.

The type of player we have in the rig is one box that is screwed in the back entertainment unit.  It is for the radio, CD, DVD and it controls all the speakers inside and out of the fifth wheel.  There are lots and lots of wires in there!  Our TV is a flat screen that goes inside of the entertainment center by a press of a button.

We have not found any regular plug to it, there is just one for the TV.  Like I said in my first post, the only way we found to shut it of two days ago, was to unplug a type of plug that you would see on a computer and before we did, there was electricity in there even with an empty battery or any other kind of electricity on the rig.  This for us was very strange...

This is the second stereo system that does that on our rig so we are wondering if it really is a defect on the player or a bad connection.  But I am telling you, it is not easy to figure out.no

I have a 12v DVD player in one of my cars. It is wired to a connection that is powered when the ignition is on. The DVD player constantly is on whether I'm using it or not, no way to turn it off other than to turn the ignition off. I would much rather have it setup where I have to flip a switch to turn it on.

It sounds like yours is always on due to the way it is wired.

This sounds like something to go back to the dealer and get the factory involved in if the system was installed by the factory. Be sure to document every contact you have with the dealer/factory. I would demand they fix this by replacing the entertainment unit with a 110V system. Or provide a lifetime supply of batteries so you can replace them each time they die and won't charge back up.

The written documentation will come in handy if they don't fix the problem and you need to go to a lawyer for help.
