Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Mobile Productivity Ideas

To while away the long weeks of winter, I decided to go slightly off-topic on my travel blog and write a series of posts related to my favorite tools and software for staying productive while working from a traveling RV home office:

http://winnieviews.blogspot.com/search/label/Mobile%20Productivity

From migrating my home office from paper-based to paperless, to changing my phone to better/cheaper VOIP phone solutions, to favorite iPhone apps for traveling, to finding free, online services to safely and conveniently store my family's medical records so that they're always accessible while traveling, I hope some of my "finds" may be useful to other RVers who interested in storing more of their "traditionally paper-based stuff" online rather than having it hog up vast amounts of space in their rig!

If you have found some interesting solutions in any of these areas, I sure would love to hear about them!  I'm always looking for cool new tech solutions!

Lynne

Lynne,

Great applications!  I'm only half way through your blog and have a big list already!

Thanks for sharing all that info. Some of it is stuff we have just started to research and this will really help. It will really help us get into a more paperless format for traveling.

If you have an iPhone or an Android phone that has a camera, GPS and compass, like the Motorola Droid on Verizon, then you might like this app - Satellite finder. I know a couple people that use it to find where their satellite dish needs to be to set up.

Thanks for the tip, Bill, that app looks very cool!

Even though my sat dish is an automatic-type and sits on the roof of the RV, it sure would be nice to see what trees might block it before determining which site to select and park at!

Cool!  I think your list is even longer than mine!

I was just about to start putting our medical records online.  You've done all my research for me.  Thanks.  I was planning to use Google Health, but I didn't know what else was out there.  After reading your information, I think I'll still use Google - but I feel more confident now with your comparisons to other options.

We also like Google Voice - it allows us to have a Business number and control when it rings - or just goes to voice mail.  It's pretty annoying to get a call at 5am because we're on the West coast when someone on the East Coast doesn't know that!

Hey Chris-
Thanks for the tip on Google Voice!

Regarding med records, I really like the combination of NoMoreClipboard.com with Google Health. NMC is a little nicer front-end app for data entry and creates an excellent 1-page patient summary document that you can print or PDF for your Dr.

But the nice thing is, you can easily link your NMC data to your Google Health record so that you can integrate with even more data (such as pharmacy records). I also like Google's free file storage feature for linking scanned documents to your medical record. Great way to keep things like a Medical Power of Attorney, DNR, and other important files together with your medical record.

Happy travels!

Thanks for all of the info on your site.  We are on our first long distance trip and have discovered how handy the iphone can be.  With all of your suggestions i can see many more possibilities.  We are currently just outside of Bryce Canyon on a rainy day catching up on internet chores.  We have good WiFi here so a great combo for a rainy day.  Thanks again!

Thanks for sharing your technology ideas - I had not even thought about having medical records easily accessable while traveling.  Great ideas for the Iphone as well.  Your blog is very informative.  Thanks!

Yep! Good stuff. Another part of my planning checklist. Seems this thing is getting larger every day! Would have never thought of electronic health records.

Dang I love this site! Definitely an eye opener.

However, there is still time to change the configuration, just a plan.
