Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Is anyone buying an RV?

no Reading another site, I found that RV manufactures are going out of business and no one is buying the RVs. This is pretty depressing since we just decided to go FT in two years, and have yet to buy. What say you!

Just like stick built houses, not many are buying anything right now due to the economy. History of economics has always rebounded, sometimes quickly, other times slower.   I am sure when it comes your time to buy your RV, these companies will have rebounded or new companies have filled the void.

If you were ready to buy NOW, it would be a great time.   Inventories up, buyers down, that equals lower prices.

Its a buyers market on RV's right now. Houses in some areas also. I do believe the market will right itself but not any to soon. Do all your homework before buying I just simply would not run out and buy, because the price is affordable right now, since it will be 2 yrs before you decide to full time. You probably have to sell your home first. Also you need to think maybe yu will change your mind before the 2 yrs is up. There will be different models to pick and choose from. I think there will always be RV industries in business.

We've been doing lots of looking and research, and are leaning toward going ahead and making a purchase soon even though it will be about 18 months until I retire and we start wintering where it's warm.

I think there will always be "good buys" available, but they are abundant right now, and may not be this good in a year or two, unless gas/fuel prices spike up again.

Also, we want some time to "practice" and get familiar and comfortable w/ whatever we buy.

Another factor moving us toward a near-term purchase is that I think there's a very good chance that we may be facing VERY high interest rates and inflation within a couple of years.  I fear the financial situation could reach late 70''s/early 80's proportions.  Hopefully they won't get that bad, but I expect at least half that bad which would still mean 8% to 10% interest and inflation rates.

We're going to finance some of the purchase for awhile, so we want to take advantage of the very low current interest rates.

Higher inflation and the potential buying demand created by the tremendous number of baby-boomers retiring over the next few years may also push prices higher.

Good luck in your research and decision making.  I'm enjoying much of the process, but also often find it tedious and mind-numbing.  I've found much of the info already in previous posts in this forum very helpful; plus the members are very generous and patient about answering specific questions you may have.

Buying now?

No we bought though when diesel was 4.29 a gallon and people were predicting it would be 5 a gallon this summer.

Just as the manufacturers were going under.

We did buy what we felt was a well built unit and in the 8,000 miles or so we have put on it in the year plus we have used it we have had issues mostly with components.

In other words things all the RV builders use so even if our warranty had been voided because the builder had gone under we would of been able to get things fixxed.

And in fact Nu Wa closed up shop in Dec, announcing that they were going out of business.  Only to then re-open early this year and restart production this month.  Since they never bankrupted the company there was never an interuption of warranty coverage.

So far we have no regrets, and look forward to useing it more the more we use it.  (Sorry if that doesn't make sense but it does to us.)

Mallo

Good friends of ours, who are about 5 years from fulltiming.
They just bought a "06" Coachman 39' DP from a dealer, they had no trade in and bought in outright.
The unit had less than 7000 miles on it and looked like new, and on top of it everything worked.
Their paying price was $65,000  The deals are out there you just have to find them.

If I bought now, I would consider an add on RV warranty from one of the outside sources. Just to make sure I would be protected in case the manufacturer went under.

I've seen some great deals advertised on new units and especially on used units offered by private parties that need to sell due to financial issues.

One ad on escapees classified has had the price reduced about six times since the unit was listed.

We just ordered our 5th wheel. I think it is a big step no matter what the economy. We did a lot of research and went with a company that seems to be weathering the storm. When we visited the plant the president said they had definitely felt the economic downturn but recently have seen an increase in orders again. Ours won't be delivered until November. Like others have said, do your research and find what is best for you.

We ordered and bought our new Carriage in May, and a new Dodge truck in March. We also sold our house here in Florida. We've done our part this year to support the economy!

Looks like they over extended on their 2011 floor plan and now have to pay it. Still not the greatest discounts I've seen though.

Prices are all over the map on all classes and they change every week.

The good news is that no matter what type of rig you're in the market for, there are deals to be found.  The bad news is that you really have to put in your time doing the research to locate those deals!

Being that Huck posted his question 3 years ago I would say he has his answer already.:)

We just purchased a '07 Mobile Suites 5er.  After looking at all the dealers adds, etc. we happened upon this unit that was for sale by a couple that bought  it new, towed it 100 mi. and plopped it down in an RV park to snowbird in for 6 mo. out of the year. It was washed & waxed & the roof cleaned twice a year, the tires were always covered, etc. When we went to look at it, it could have passed for brand new. No mildew or mold on either of the two awings or slide toppers and the inside was immaculate. On top of all of that, it had about $20k worth of upgrades and we bought it for about $10,000 less than what the asking price was (which was about $15,000 under NADA book value).

Sooooo.... in answer to your question, yes, people are still buying RV's. Now we just have to sell the house. Figured if we get the RV, it might be more of an insentive to get the house sold.

Just Do It!

huck,

Don't let what others say get you depressed. Some people just see "gloom and doom" and try to convince everyone that the world is coming to an end.

Don't believe them. Do your research and buy a unit made by a good company, and you'll be fine.

Oh, by the way, there's still many companies in business and most are making a profit.

Good luck,

Jim

Yeah, I missed that little bit of info when I posted last night. ashamed

It still holds true though. Lots of goom and doomers out there. Just the other day a guy was telling me that in 5 years the price of diesel would be $18 a gallon.

Couldn't tell me where he got that info though.

Jim
