Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

DirecTV on the Road

DirecTV has informed me that my request for Distance Network Service has been denied. DirecTV told me to call the networks and ask them for their reason for denying me service. Has anyone else been down this road and how should I handle this to get service when I'm not in my 'home' territory??

Hi
We have been curious about this too.  We have Dish Network and just got 2 new boxes from them so we had to sign up for 24 months.

When we sell our house soon hopefully, will we keep the new boxes get a satellite on the fifth wheel still be able to use Dish Network.

Exactly what do you say to Dish Network when you move into an rv?

Is there anything you have to do each time you move and set up?

Thanks
Mel

You have to fill out the DNS form. No other method will work. You MUST include a copy of your RV registration with it.

Given a proper form then you really should not have an issue getting the DNS service if you are fulltime.

DirecTV sent us the DNS forms to fill out then we sent them back. They then contact the local stations for approval.

Ok I see how it works and hopefully they won't change anything.

I was thinking about having internet anywhere to install an internet satellite and the tv dish.

Is this a good idea and will we be able to use our new Dish Network dishes or do they have to use something different for their equipment??

Thanks
Mel

Speedy,

This is for fulltiming for us.  I was confused by the previous comment about how Dish Network would ask the local channels?   How can they ask them all, we plan on being everywhere.

Which leads to the next question.  Is there something that we have to do to get reception with Dish Network once we set move again to get programing and local channels wherever we may be?
I have read something about having to call Dish Network to change the locations?

Lets not confuse Speedy or me to muchhmm

Thanks
Mel

With Direct TV you get all the channels except the networks - CBS, NBC, ABC and Fox. For them you have to fill out the DNS forms as stated and then when they are approved you will get the networks from New York and Los Angeles with the 3 hour delay. There is no way to get the local networks from the town you are visiting.

Okay, I've got it now. I called DirecTV and they e-mailed me the forms. I've completed and mailed the forms to D TV. Will wait the 10-14 days and hopefully will hear from them by then.

The local channels come through the old fashioned antenna with the black box attached.

Thanks for the D TV help. I don't know much about Dish.

Yes it is confusing...DNS is for the networks as Fred says. If you have HD DirecTv it gets even more confusing.

As for local channels, I have called DirecTv a couple times and they allowed me to change my location and get local channels. But, the last time I called they said they may not always be able to do it for me. The customer rep I talked to said as long as you don't make the request very often, like maybe 6 times a year or less, they will probably make the change. One word of caution...when you login to your DirecTv account it will show 2 addresses. When calling to attempt to change your locals make sure they are only changing your installation address. Let them know you live in an RV and have moved to a new location. Whatever you do, do not change your billing address. I learned the hard way that the billing address is tied to your DNS service. If it changes then your waiver is gone and you will need to resend the waiver request with your RV registration.

I just moved from New Mexico to Branson Missouri and plan on calling them to try and get the locals here. If I have problems I will update this thread...

We filled out the DNS form last summer when we were in MT. it didn't take long till we had the East West channels. When we spent time in Pa. we called them and got local channels.  When we came down to FL. for the winter we called again and got the local channels here. In about a month we are returning to PA. for a short stay and than heading to ME. for the summer and we will see how it goes.
Up until now DirecTV has been great to work with and we have had no problems.

We have Direct  tv also and have done the same as Dan and Serengeti. We simply call them and they will change us to the local channels where we are. We do have a billing address and DO NOT change it, as we still are N.M. based. Also we had the dish when we moved out of our sticks n bricks and took it with us.

Hi Judy,

How do you use the satellite dish that you brought from home?  Do you mount it on a stand or on your rv?

Since we had the dish when we had the house we kept it on a tripod at the house as we knew we would be moving out. So the dish gets set up on the tripod and dh has had no problems in doing this.
