Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
I renewed my AAA membership the 1st of October, so I have nearly a year to go on it. Will it work the same for an RV, or for just the truck pulling the 5VER? I looked at the website for Coach-Net, and that is double the cost of AAA, although the coverage looks pretty good. I'd like to just wait until AAA expires to get something else, but I also want decent coverage.

Gypsy, We also had AAA and so checked into it for road service. We found that they do have RV coverage but you have to pay extra for it and it was alot more than the Good Sam option.
I tried to send you a note on your blog, but couldn't get through. Wanted to let you know that either 95 around Baltimore or the PA turnpike are yucky drives. We live in northern Delaware and plan on making our trips south by going down state De, then across the BayBridge tunnel and over to 95. You can then take 95 down to 40 and across NC. I read your blog everyday and I was really worried about you when I thought you were going to do your first day of driving on that nasty rainy day...glad you waited. I hope we can meet along the road some day...we are starting our full time journey in Feb. Loralie

Thanks so much for the response, Loralie. I wasn't sure about the PA Turnpike, but it's close to where the storage is, and it will get me out of NJ fastest. To me nothing could be worse than Baltimore/Washington, DC, or I-95. O may just drive up the Garden State Parkway and then turn west until I hit I-81. I want I-81 because not knowing of any place else along the way to get a few items for the 5Ver as well as to get some things done such as de-winterizing, I found that Harrisburg PA and Winchester VA both have Camping World. Winchester looks really easy to get to from I-81. I will be much more comfortable on I-81 than 95.
If the weather is really bad when I'm scheduled to start out I will just wait it out until I have a decent day for driving. I don't need extra problems at first.
What I would really like to do is bring it here to NY and live in it for the 2nd half of Nov. It is really trying to have two dogs that shed in a house that is normally pet free. When the weather is nice they spend a lot of time on the deck, but dogs are sociable animals and I feel so bad that they are not with me, especially the older of the two who has cataracts and can't see well. They are going back into the kennel Thanksgiving week because of the number of people who will be staying here. One son is flying in from CA, my granddaughter will be here from college in PA, and my niece from college in NYC. That will be a great way to end the month anyway.

Having used both Good Sam and Coach Net there is definitely a difference. We had good service the time we need to avail Good Sam for assistance, and Coach Net provided even better service.
However, the main difference is that all of the Coach Net service providers are well versed and prepared to "tow" a motor home or a truck/fiver combination. This is why many manufacturers even provide one year of Coach Net service with new RVs.
Hope I never need that service, but for virtually the same cost, it provides significant peace of mind.

We had the opportunity to use our Good Sam Emergency Service in a very remote area of Canada while returning from Alaska. While it took over an hour on the phone, the Good Sam representative worked very hard and found someone to load our truck on a flatbed and tow the 5th wheel 125 miles to the nearest Ford dealership. We would never be without emergency service that covers both the truck and the 5th wheel.
I'v had AAA for several years, they have a Plus RV program which I have. A year or two ago I lost a tranny out on the interstate about 50 miles from home. AAA had 2 two trucks there within an hour, one loaded the truck took it to the shop the other hitched up to my TT and towed it to my storage spot, backed it in and dropped it. I couldn't have been any more pleased, didn't pay a dime, I'm sure that covered several years worth of dues. I would look at all plans avaliable and go with the one I felt most comfortable with. I know from experince AAA has RV coverage and it worked well when I needed it.

Maybe this will help you make up your mind on the Good Sam Service. We were coming into Chicken, Alaska and I got a little to close to the edge of the road and the road was very soft after a resent rain and the road just sank under our class A. Luckily there was no damage but we were stuck. One of the local guy's had a satellite phone and he called a tow truck in Tok, eighty miles away. Long story short, we didn't go by the Good Sam Protocol of calling them first but after talking to them four day's later and explained all the details they sent me a check for the full amount of the tow job, $990.00 You can be sure I don't leave home without it. First... Let me wish you the very best as you start your New Full Timing life !
We have had both Good Sam's emergency towing service as well as Camping World Towing service...
When we first started out (2004) on our own Full Time... Next Adventure... I stopped at the local AAA office to ask that very question. They were unsure... So I got on the phone my self... the answer they offered me was it depended on where I was... if the service AAA used in that location had the equipment... they "MAY" be able to haul the Fifth Wheel RV off the highway... The truck was never in question... That did not set well with our plans so I decided to find a better solution... to get a company that would leave no question.
Today I use a rider on our "Full Time" RV Insurance policy. The costs are now lower than when I used either Good Sams or Camping World's towing service. I've not had the reason yet to use the coverage... and hope I never do !!
