Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. Interesting Solution to an In-Motion Sat Dome problem

I have a King Dome Sat Dome on my motor home.  When I purchased the MH new off the dealer's lot, it had the stationary dome which I had upgraded to In-Motion.  The thing has worked very well all over the country until a couple of weeks ago where it would lose the signal when I went down an off ramp or made a circle in a parking lot, then it couldn't reaquire the signal unless I went through the whole sat set up proceedure. confused

Took it to Camping World where I had the upgrade done.  The tech found the dome was missing an upgrade that was retrofitted to these domes some years back.  Basically, the domes needed a spacer between the top and bottom sections.  I guess Winnebago bought bunches of these domes years back and mine was one that never had the spacers installed.

The spacers give just enough room to prevent the LNB as it rotates inside the dome from contacting the inside top of the dome.  You could see the scratch marks and the little plastic particles from where my LNB was hitting the dome.  When it was new, the plastic was smooth, but over a period of time, the constant scratching caused a rough surface which made the LNB hang up when it was looking to find the signal.

The tech put small washers between the dome top and bottom on each screw that holds the two halves together, and it works great!  Drove it all around in circles and drove all over Sat and Sunday, problem solved.  Glad I had a sharp tech who knew his business.  Yes, I tipped him well. biggrin

Hi Paul:

I have a question I'd like to ask you about an in-motion Sat. Dome Will any Direct TV receiver work with this type of dish, I'm buying a Phaeton with a in -motion and my old dish was manual. Any help would be appreciated. Thx Gummy

Gummy,

Based on my experience, I'd say yes.  I am using the same Direct TV receiver that I previously used in my last MH, which had a crank up dish.  I also use the same receiver when I use my portable dish in a campground with too many trees and have to find an opening to get a clear shot of the Southern sky.

I think you'll have no problems.  I love the in-motion sat dome, keeps the grandchildren happy, or when they are not with me, I can still listen to news and weather channels.  Notice I did not say "watch". wink
