Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Some of our RV-Dreams Family members have suggested that we do a cookbook made up of recipes from the RV-Dreams Community. So we are making that happen.
Anyone can contribute up to three* of their favorite recipes online between now and February 28, 2008. We are trying to get 300 recipes.
Linda will review the recipes and do editing in March and we will submit the cookbook for printing in April to make sure it is available for the 2008 RV-Dreams Rally in June. It will also be available for sale online. The cost will be only $10!
Here's how it works. Go to the Morris Press Cookbooks "typensave online" webpage at RV-Dreams Cookbook Login. Read through that page and even check out the Demo for adding a recipe if you like. Linda is the "chairperson" as described on the webpage. Everyone else is a "contributor".
When you are ready, click on the "login" button. That will bring up a new screen. Enter your name as you would like it to appear with your recipe in the "Contributor Name" box. The "Group Login" is: rv-dreams. And the "Password" is: cookbook.
NOTE: After you click on the link above the first time and have logged in, subsequent clicks on the link will take you directly to the login screen.
Once you click "Submit", you will get a "Welcome" screen. That screen tells you the recipe submission deadline, how many recipes you have added (you will have up to three), and how many recipes have been added in total. There is a tiny link in the third box to "Add Recipes". Click on that.
Then you will get an "Add Recipe" window. There is a message from Linda at the top. Be sure to read it.
You can add up to two additional "Contributor" names if you want to give someone else credit or if you want to add your Forum name.
Then give your recipe a name and select a category from the drop-down list. Our categories are somewhat limited to keep production simple.
Then put your recipe together. There are dropdown lists there to help. Also, there is a spellchecker and a preview button so be sure to use those. Once the recipe is submitted it can't be changed except by Linda.
By the way, there is a little button that says "Insert Part". That can be used if your recipe is done in parts (say like a cake in one part and icing in another) so you can separate your ingredients and instructions.
Also, there are little question mark symbols throughout the "Add Recipe" page. Click on those for more information about each section or if you don't understand something.
This should be fun and end up as a fantastic cookbook for everyone. If you have any questions, post them here.
I for one am really looking forward to the results!
* - We have limited the recipes per person to three in the beginning to give everyone a chance. However, if you just can't decide on your best three, we will open it up if we need more toward the end of the submission period. Don't forget, you can always put three in your spouse's name if you don't want to wait.
Hi... I got tired of being a "lurker" - sounds kind of bad so I thought I would post on here. Thanks for doing the cookbook! I'm excited to see all the recipes. I'm not a full-timer yet. Just doing the summer camping trips with kids and husband for a few more years. Hopefully full-timing soon after that. Just bought the truck - just need the 5th wheel to replace the pop-up! Anyway, looking forward to purchasing the cookbook in March. Thanks for letting us live vicariously through your adventures.
The cookbook is a great idea, don't give up! I am guilty of procratinating myself, but after Howard's 'reminder' this morning, I logged on & entered a terrific recipe for a hot Spinach Artichoke dip that's simple, quick & delicious! Hope you all enjoy it.
Oh, just thought I would mention that it was easy to follow the instructions to enter the recipe, so everyone, dig out that favorite recipe & let's take some pressure of the Payne's, ok!
I'll add a couple of more toward the end if we need them.
I think its a great idea! I just added an appetizer. Bacon and cheese fingers. I won $100.00 submitting this to Sargento's a few years ago! LOL! The way I acted u think I won a millon dollars!
I have a recipe in already but wanted to chime in on the book part. I have one from a park in El Golfo Mexico (through my mom and dad). But my boss when she saw it purchased 3 for people she knew would like one and they love it. My parents are in Corpus Christi in a park they spent quite a few years in and some of the people there saw the book and decided to make one as well. It is a great idea as it covers from ****tails to desserts and covers a little something for every kind of diet.
I had to chime in this way because all of us have relatives who would like this as a gift especially if we have a recipe in it. Anna
I haven't posted for quite awhile - just been lurkin' ! But I did submit a recipe for the cookbook today. Great idea for the rally so hope you get enough to publish. I can submit a couple more - just need to decide which ones.
We're signed up for the rally - but DH work issues may mean we have to cancel and wait for next year. We should know in the next month or so. I still will buy a cookbook though!

I hadn't submitted a recipe because I thought it would fill up pretty quickly. I submitted 2 now. :) If I come up with another must share recipe I will add it too.

I submitted a recipe early this morning and will add a couple more later today if you still need them. I joined in on the "chat" group last night....it was fun!

PS: 9:00 am MT....I just added 2 more recipes. If you already have them, let me know and I'll find a replacement.
Hi Linda, The CookBook is such a great idea. Guess we've all been sluffing off..... I put my 3 recipes in last night and this morning. It was very easy to follow the directions. Looking forward to trying all our family members great dishes. Arlene

I only got one recipe in there and I have way too much going on here trying to get moved out by the 28th closing that I know I won't be putting the other two in this cookbook. If there is a way to do it and Linda doesn't mind, you could certainly put in the two I won't be adding.
Back to my nightmare... Jan

Well we just passed the March 1 deadline for submitting recipes. But since we are approaching 200 recipes, we've done two things.
First, we have extended the deadline to March 15. Second, we have lifted the "3 per person" limit.
So let's go folks! Let's get to 300 recipes!
And for those that haven't entered any yet, we really want YOU!!! The number of different contributors determines how many we will order, and the contributors will get the first shot at purchasing cookbooks. If you want one, ya better submit a recipe!!
By the way, Linda says she really needs Side Dishes and Breads/Rolls. So dig out those recipes for the dish you take to every family gathering and potluck! And throw in your best bread (sweet or not) recipe as well.
Don't wait! We cannot go beyond March 15 and have time to get 'em proofed and published. Thanks!!!!!
Well, you did it! We got to the 300 recipes and we got very close to our goal of 100 different contributors. Thanks so much!
Linda will be proofing recipes the rest of this month and we will get the cookbooks ordered. They should be ready around the first part of May.
We will have them at the Rally and also online. They will be $10 each. If you order online, the shipping will be around $3.00 each. But if you order multiple copies the shipping price per book, will be much less than that.
We have a spreadsheet going of folks that have let us know they will be ordering or picking one up at the Rally. I'm sure there will be many more. So if you know you want one or more and haven't emailed us yet, you can let us know here. It will help us in the ordering process - we're not yet committing you to anything.
Just wanted to make sure that you got my email last month that we want 5 of the cookbooks!! Our girls all want one because some of the recipes are their grandmothers recipes. Thanks! Lynette

Life may not be the the Party we hoped for, but while we're here we should Dance!
The RV-Dreams cookbook has been excellent. I've made a meal or something from it about every night we've been home since the rally. Thank you Howard & Linda, it's down to earth recipes and easy. I don't like the kitchen and I'll take any help I can get. Dee_NC
