Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

POOP PUMP

AFTER YEARS OF FIGHTING GRAVITY DURING DUMPS, I FINALLY DECIDED TO TRY TO SIMPLIFY THE PROCESS.  OUR 2002 ROSEAIR PUSHER SITS PRETTY LOW TO THE GROUND WHEN PARKED AND THE TANK CONFIGURATION FURTHER COMPOUNDS THE PROBLEM.  WE ARE CURRENTLY SPENDING THREE MONTHS IN A CAMP HOST SITE THAT HAS A SEWER PIPE LOCATED 25’ FROM THE TANK OUTLET AND IS 12” UP SLOPE.  ONE OF THE OTHER HOSTS HAD INSTALLED A RV SANI CON SYSTEM (www.emptythetanks.com) AND LOVES IT.  I WENT TO CAMPING WORLD LOOKING FOR THE SAME SYSTEM BUT ENDED UP WITH A CLEAN-DUMP SYSTEM (www.cleandump.com) .  INSTALLATION OF THE SANI CON SYSTEM APPEARS TO BE SIMPLER BUT WOULDN’T FIT INTO MY TANK COMPARTMENT.  I INSTALLED THE CLEAN DUMP MYSELF.  IT REQUIRED DRILLING A FEW HOLES, CONNECTING FLEX HOSES AND WIRING IT UP TO 12V DC.  THE KIT HAS EVERYTHING NEEDED FOR INSTALLATION EXCEPT THE FOUR BOLTS TO FASTEN DOWN THE MOTOR TO THE RV.  CLEAN DUMP RECOMMENDED WIRING UP DIRECTLY TO THE HOUSE BATTERIES USING THE WIRE THEY PROVIDED ALONG WITH A 20 AMP IN LINE FUSE (ALSO PROVIDED).  MY WATER PUMP IS LOCATED NEAR WHERE I MOUNTED THE SYSTEM AND IS ALSO ON A 20 AMP FUSE SO I JUST PIGGY-BACKED OFF OF THAT CIRCUIT.  I JUST NEED TO TAKE CARE NEVER TO RUN THE WATER PUMP WHEN USING THE DUMP SYSTEM.  I JUST DIDN’T FEEL LIKE CRAWLING UNDER THE RV TO WIRE DIRECTLY TO THE BATTERIES.  I MOUNTED THE ON/OFF SWITCH NEXT TO THE EXTERIOR WATER PUMP SWITCH. THE SYSTEM WORKS GREAT!  NO MUSS NO FUSS.  JUST FLIP THE SWITCH AND OPEN THE BLACK TANK FIRST AS USUAL FOLLOWED BY GREY.  THE WASTE IS GROUND UP AND PUMPED OUT THROUGH A 1” HOSE.  THE HOSE HAS A NOZZLE THAT THREADS INTO MOST SEWERS BUT ALSO HAS ADAPTERS TO FIT JUST ABOUT ANY DRAIN.  THE SYSTEM WILL PUMP UP TO 350’ AND 20’ ABOVE TANK LEVEL.  SO IF YOU FIND YOURSELF PARKED IN AUNT TILLIE’S DRIVEWAY FOR A WHILE, YOU CAN RUN THE OUTPUT HOSE TO ANY SEWER CLEANOUT AND DUMP AWAY.  THE NOZZLE HAS ITS OWN QUICK SHUT-OFF SO YOU DON’T GET ANY HOSE DRIPS WHEN YOU DISCONNECT AND STORE THE HOSE. EVEN THOUGH I HAVE THE CLEAN DUMP SYSTEM, THE SANI-CON LOOKS LIKE IT MAY HAVE A FEW MORE FEATURES AND INSTALLS EASIER.  NEITHER ARE CHEAP – BUT IF YOU ARE FULL-TIMERS, WORTH THE INVESTMENT.  EVEN IF YOU ARE A WEEKEND WARRIOR AND WISH YOU HAD A DUMP DRAIN NEAR WHERE YOU PARK AT HOME, ONE OF THESE SYSTEMS WOULD BE A LOT CHEAPER THAN TRENCHING 4” PVC OUT TO YOUR RV.

OK, despite your all capitals post, I simply don't get either the Sani-Con or Clean Dump systems. Now, granted, I don't park anywhere for long periods of time so I suspect that if you stay in bad locations/situations for extended periods of time you may need to make some exceptional modifications to your coaches systems.
I fill my fresh tanks when they are empty and I empty my black/grey tanks when they are full. That's about it for me. I use the standard dump hose and connections and, for whatever reason, this has worked perfectly for me for the last 10 years that we have been living in our RV full-time.
Certainly I have had times where I wish the RV park had selected a more appropriate location for their dump connection but somehow I have been able to struggle through. I have multiple hoses that can be connected together if I need a longer run but about 90% of the time I just need the one 15' hose to get to the sewer and it's almost always downhill (not always, but a slight lift of the hose takes care of that).
Please don't take this post as any kind of a disparage of your pleasure with the system, I only mean to let others know of our previous experiences and the lack of need for most RVers for this kind of a system. (Want maybe, but need? Questionable.)

Bill, basically the macerator pumps are handiest when boondocking. We use ours to pump the rv tanks into the blue boy to haul to the dump station. As for stretching a standard hose far enough to reach a sewer, (giving one is available) I would prefer to use my macerator to pump it any distance than have a slinky 50' long filled with the WORKS :) . Of course this is personal preference. The major issues I see Hogans having is that the hookup is 12" higher than his outlet. As we all know Poop runs DOWNhill not up :) . That is the main reason he is so pleased with the system. He can pump it uphill without any problem. We use ours if we stay at the kids house as they don't have a connection near where we park. So if we are there long enough I hook up the macerator and the hose and pump it to their cleanout.

Side benefit, if you have neighbors you can't stand and want them to move you can always spray them down with grey water! :) :) of course none of us would do that but there have been times camped near obnoxious drunks when it has come to mind. :)

I agree, there are exceptional camping conditions that might require exceptional modifications to a coaches plumbing system and I am not trying to say what it right or wrong for anyone. I had to use a blue boy once (only once, thank God) and we just hooked up our sewer hose to the blue boy. I guess you have a little better control while filling it, but opening and closing the dump valve seemed to work just fine for me.
Please.......I am not condemning any system. Some folks think they have to have electric dump valves. They don't want to touch those things! That's OK, too, but is it necessary?
Hogans1947 has clearly done what IS necessary for him and having a macerator is what you want/need.
New coaches built in OR were forbidden from installing macerators by law due to the misuse of this product. My '88 Prevost had (still has but is non-functional now) a macerator but the only outlet was on the passenger side. The on/off switch is on the dash. The standard use for this option was to stop by the side of the road and empty the tanks into the woods at high pressure. You could also give a hitchhiker a really bad day if you chose to do so.

SORRY ABOUT "ALL CAPS."  I'M VISUALLY IMPAIRED AND FIND IT EASIER TO TYPE WITH ONE HAND AN HOLD A MAGNIFYING GLASS IN THE OTHER WHEN USING ALL UPPERCASE.  EASIER TO READ TOO.

Have you looked at any of the visually impaired options available from Microsoft? I apologize in advance as I have not used any of these options but I understand that there are some very helpful utilities out there for Windows users.

If you will reread Bills post I think you will see that he was saying they were being used by some lowlifes for that purpose. That is NOT the intended use.
