Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
I would like to hang a magnetic knife bar above the stove but I'm not sure how to go about it. For anyone that has one in their RV, how did you mount it to the wall? The wall board is very thin, and there are no studs/supports anywhere in the area that I would like to hang this. Also, is it even a good idea, or would the knives slide off when traveling bumpy roads?
I know these work great in my home. However, I do not know how they would be mounted in an rv. My guess is that you might be better with the knife saver drawer inserts. I have those too as I collect vintage chef's knives. They work every bit as well as the bars at protecting your knives and it helps to know there is a dedicated drawer space where you won't just stick your hand in to grab something and get cut. If someone does let you know that the bars can be hung in your rv, please let me know as I would be interested in doing that as well.

Reminds me of my safari in Africa. Somebody forgot the corkscrew and for several days we had to live on nothing but food and water.
I used moly bolts (not toggle bolts). They are designed for thin walls and displace the polystyrene foam as they expand.

Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad to hear the knife rack will work. Not having the big knife block will free up a bit of weight and more importantly it will give me a little more counter space. :)
I bought the kind that has magnetic strips on both sides and stuck it on the side of the stove hood. Knives are easily accessible and no screwing holes in my walls. Also, I have a toddler and this keeps the knives well above his reach since he can open drawers now.

The knives do fall off, so I put them in a drawer while we are traveling and then put them back up when we are stationary for more than a couple of days.
I looked at both the magnetic ones and the drawer insert with slots in it…and ended up with just using silicone blade covers instead. Takes a lot less room in the drawer and I would worry about them falling off the magnet while traveling.
The knives do fall off, so I put them in a drawer while we are traveling and then put them back up when we are stationary for more than a couple of days.

X2 - especially the larger knives. We just put them in the drawer beside the stove for travel. I used plastic anchors that expand behind the wall-board to attach the magnetic rack. It's on the refrigerator side rather than behind our glass fold-up stove cover.
