Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
So I am sure this has been covered in other posts but I just don't get it so please bear with me. Lee and I are having a running disagreement about whether to put up our whole house We Boost when we stop for a few days. In all fairness he's the one that sets it up and it is a pain, plus not great when it's super windy, but my issue is I just don't understand when it can be helpful.
Scenario one - no signal. In this case Lee says it's never helpful because it can only boost an existing signal
Scenario two - strong signal (3 or more bars) slow internet speeds. Again Lee says in this case it doesn't help because it can't make the speeds faster, just help get a weak signal.
Scenario three - weak signal (1-2 bars). In this case Lee says it will help and usually is willing to put it up.
Soooo...do those of you who have one of these agree?? Are you using it to any good effect in scenario 1 and 2?

under 3 bars and I set up and raise the antenna......of course I use AT&T hotspot and a Crane CCX mile antenna for most of my internet needs......have a wilson cellular also on the tower (24' ext. painter pole) so it seems to cover all bases

I don't pay attention to the bars, I do not find that to be accurate enough. I look at the dBm reading (under the Settings, about device, signal strength). If it's -90 or worse, we set it up. I usually find the We Boost gives the signal a 20 to 30 point gain on the signal, the bigger the negative number, the worse the signal.
Right now we're at a one night stopover before we return the rig to the repair shop, my AT&T phone is -111 but Verizon is reading -68dBm, since my early AM conf call will be a Skype call, my Verizon signal is strong enough that we don't need it.
Note - last location we were in, a place I know you've been (Kartschner Caverns SP), my phone (AT&T) was showing 1 bar, dBm of -100 or worse, setting up the We Boost got me to -78 dBm which is perfectly workable. We don't have the whole house system, we have the RV version and the set up is usually just a few minutes. Since Dale and I both know that if I don't have a reasonable signal we have to pack up and move on, that's enough incentive to take the 5 minutes to set it up and 5 minutes to take it down. Because we have a low antenna we haven't noticed much of a difference caused by strong winds.
