Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Hi All,

I'm looking for a ( in home ) RV security system to cover break-ins, etc.  There are many systems out there but I want one that will call my cell phone rather than a security system answering company.  The reason being that we will be on the road and will have no permanent address, and calling a local PD will not work.  If the system calls my phone, I can decide whether or not to call the local PD and call the closet PD to me at the time.

simple......use an auto dial-er.....but remember if you want your security system to call you.....its going to need a dedicated phone line to do it......


my answer........if you need a security system that sophisticated , your parking in the wrong place.....2. a very loud siren and flasher will send them on there way fast and attract the attention needed to make it happen with a witness or 2....

if it goes off accidentally to many times ....trust me you will get rid of it or not use it.......nothing worse than having it call you , you go all the way back to find a false alarm........or it goes off and upsets your neighbor and the park your staying in and you are asked to leave.......


Kinda like the person who sets there car alarm while they are parked right next to the RV or are down at the pool and it goes off for 20 min. over and over again......nope not there fault for having the piece of mind while they destroy the tranquility of mine.....


the adage of..........if it feels bad in your gut instincts it most likely is.......applys to this....lif you need or feel you have to set your alarm to protect your belongings you already know your parking in the wrong place!!

Just buy the LARGEST old pair of worn out work boots you can find. Leave them outside your door along side a large dog dish. Get some second guessing......

OK - OK - Uncle, I give up.  Maybe I don't need one since it seems to be the consensus. I was just thinking that we'll be parked in one place or another and travel from there, being gone from a couple days to a couple weeks.  After a while a place becomes noticeably abandoned and might attract unwanted guests.

I'll rethink this after trying it a few times.  But if I get robbed, I'm blaming you guys.  aww

You're going to leave your unit for days at a time at a park - don't think so. Most parks require that you not leave them unattained for 24 hrs or something like that. Or are you going to leave it just parked on a street? In a lot?

In a park, but I didn't know about the restrictions. Where I am in Ma. they have no such rule.  Another lesson to learn I guess.

We have a simple motion activated camera/security unit, that sends an alert to my cell phone if motion is detected and will record the motion and I can view on my cell. It's called a Canary; hooked in through wifi. It's not a hard core security system, but does give me a little peace of mind when we are away from our coach. Yes, I believe that RV parks are safe, and I have yet to feel unsafe at a park we have stayed at, however don't believe there's anything wrong with taking a little extra precaution....everything we own is in our coach!!

 I've not seen that rule in any of the parks we have been in. I don't think they would notice or care if you were gone for a couple of days. If I planned to be gone longer I would check with the the park ahead of time or when I made the reservation as to their policy.

Membership parks do not let you leave the RV unattended, but private ones do.

We'll have a F.L.A.G. (Four Legged Alert Growler) model Mk1F Beagle  when we hit the road.biggrin Security systems? We don't need no stinkin' security system.

Now if we could just get her to stop being so friendly.... on second thought, we like her just the way she issmile
