Where can you get Fifth Wheel tires replaced economically

Do you really want to risk your home to 'inexpensive' tires? Those tires are going to be carrying a lot of weight, they need to be good quality, properly mounted & balanced. Cut corners elsewhere, not in your tires.

As far as Walmart.......I wouldn't trust them with my wheel barrow tire. Most are young kids running tire machines and geared with a mindset for playing with passenger car tires.

Hopefully you're looking for the BEST quality.....Not just the cheapest. Any reputable tire shop can do mounting and balancing. If all else fails any heavy truck tire shop will do it.

I would highly recommend staying with a well known brand like Goodyear or Michelin. Try contacting www.trailertiresand wheels.com in Eden Ohio. They have good prices and the last I knew they mount and balance. Since they sell to the RV industry, they have fresh production dates so you will not be getting older tires that have been sitting in stock somewhere aging.

Trace, before we took off, I had the goodyear G614 tires, discount tire had the best price was about $329.00 each with 110 pounds max, we put 90 pounds in the tires on the 16 inch rims. Very thick sidewalls, they carrier 3750 pounds each. Goodyears are very good tires, got rid of the China bombs, do not kid yourself, these tires are very heavy, the China bombs are very thin sidewalls.

Trailer tires and Wheels is where most of us go to get our tires.

Ok let me clarify...It's not where to get tires...it's who MOUNTS them on the rims and puts them on the trailer. I don't want to go to a delaer for that so who else does it.

I don't understand the issue with having them mounted, balanced, and bolted to the trailer. Don't go to little car shops....Just go to a larger truck tire shop.

Discount tire did all the work for us and I just watch them do all the heavy work, I was tired just watching them do all the heaving lifting.

I shopped for six Michelins for the motorhome. Costco had the best price for the complete job. They assigned two men and had me come before opening hours so the motorhome could be parked in front of the garage bays. I watched and was impressed with the hard work and skill it takes to do large tire work.

It's not like having tires changed on a car. You can't just lift that weight of a tire back on the axel, it took special equipment.

I'm happy with the decision to put the best tires on the rig, there are some big hills out there. The peace of mind was worth the cost.

Thanks Russ that's good to know. As far as using any tire shop ..MANY will not touch an RV because of liability. Lee called three semi-truck shops and none of them would touch a camper...so don't assume anyone would do it.

Trace - we just ordered our new RV tires. A West Coast chain called Les Schwab will be performing the dismount, remount and disposal for what seems to be a very reasonable fee of less than $200. Now what we couldn't do was have the tires shipped from Trailer Tire and Wheel to Les Schwab, they didn't want any liability to be on them if any damage occurred during shipping. Since we're back in our old "home base" area and have lots of friends in this area, we arranged to have them shipped to a friends house. Our friend is even being so gracious to plan to be home when FedEx Ground arrives, hoping they will load them right into the bed of his pickup truck and then he's driving them to Les Schwab for us and meeting us there so they can install them for us.

We always get tires at Les Schwab when in Oregon. Always 2-3 RVs in when we are getting tires, most of their shops have big outside bays to handle RVs and big trucks.

Biggest advantage for replacing tires in OR is no sales tax. When you are talking 4 22.5 tires for a motorhome, that's a nice chunk of change.

I had my warranty replacement wheels from Trailer Tires and Wheels shipped to Loves Truck Tire Centre in Quartzsite where they swapped out my defective wheels. I'm sure any Flying J/Pilot truck stop with a tire shop would do the same.

Barb - we weren't charged sales tax from Tire and Wheels when they shipped them for us, even though we're in WA where the sales tax rate is quite high. Love those no sales tax states, OR and MT, are our favorite Western States to shop in if we have big ticket items to purchase.

Beware of "use" taxes. Several states are actively making efforts to get their "pound of flesh". The out of state seller may not charge sales tax, but you may still be required to figure the use tax in its place and pay your state for the tax due on it.

This is a 4 1/2 year old thread. I suspect that the original poster is no longer interested in answers to their questions in the original post.

Howard prefers that we not respond and revive old threads, specifically anything that is over one year old. If someone wants to discuss tires, it is better to start a new thread rather than reply to an old one. Thus, I will be closing this thread.
