Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Hi all,

I've read all the GPS forum inputs and wondered if it was time for some new information.  Can anyone comment on three of the newer GPS units ?

I have the Garmin DEZL760. Same hardware platform as the RV version. It has an RV setting but costs $100 more because of the extra software. I haven't used it in the car or RV mode so I can't compare it to my old TomTom. It does a good job keeping me off the no truck roads. It has lane guidance as you approach interchanges. Traffic updates are included. I have had no problems with errors or need to reboot. Screen is large and bright and the sound is loud. The Bluetooth is useless in the big truck but it is nice to have an incoming call flash on the screen. I have answered it and hollered hold on while I grab my headset but it isn't good for conversations.

The DEZL has a units converter, voice command, audible book reader, calculator, picture viewer, world clock, language guide, trip planner, IFTA logging, hours of service, smartphone link(live traffic, traffic cams, weather, etc).

We purchased the RandMcNally RVNT7710 a few years ago when it came out.  We have been very pleased as you can program in for bigger vehicles and it will send you on truck routes.  when this one dies or becomes obsolete our next one will probally be a truckers gps.  In fact on Good Morning America today they did a piece on people who drive bigger vehicles and use a consumer rated (car) gps and how it gets them in trouble.  It recommended that anyone driving anything over the size of a personal vehicle should have a specialized or commercial gps unit.

 We have the RV version of the DEZL760 and echo all of MarkS comments. We use it in the car mode as well as the RV mode. Easy to setup and switch back and forth. But like all GPS brands it's not perfect. Occasionally it will take you the long way around and have you scratching your head as to why they routed you that way. I still prefer it to others I have used though. Once on I-80 going to Ft. Collins CO from Virginia it had us going down I-76 to Denver and back up to Ft. Collins when there is a more direct route. I stopped at a rest area and checked my settings and had the weight of my RV set too high. As soon as I corrected that info it routed us to Cheyenne, WY and then down to Ft. Collins.

So just want to see if anyone has anything to add.

In the next week, I'll be ordering a hard copy of a "Trucker's Atlas" & maybe a Trucker's/RV GPS.

Any updates or suggestions on either?
