Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

How to remove the couch?

We have a 2008 Mobile Suites.  We want to remove the couch.  We're wondering if the back of the couch can be removed so we can take the couch out the door in pieces?  I've read that the hideabed mechanism can be removed, so we'll do that.  Anybody know if the back comes off?

Thanks!

Can't help you with "proper" disassembly of the sofa, but, if you don't want to reuse it elsewhere, sell it or give it away... you can most definitely take it apart to fit through the doorbiggrinbiggrinbiggrin  Gotta love that handy Mk9 hacksaw when all else fails.biggrinno

Cindy,

I don't remember what was in the 2008 models, but for our 2010, the couch back easily came off, making it easy to get out the door.  Pull off the cushions and maybe turn the couch over and look from the underneath to see if there are easily reached fasteners.

I'd like to be more specific, but we removed our "original" furniture over 4 years ago, and I don't remember exactly what was required to disassemble it.  Once we got our furniture out, it was easy to reassemble everything, and Jo sold them on Craigslist.

Shoot, if I was still in Colorado Springs, I'd offer to come up and help you with the project.  As it is, we are "visiting" in Oklahoma City while our son recuperates from his surgery.  We hope to be able to go "home" in about two weeks.  If your project is delayed that long, give us a holler.

By the way, this is what our couch looked like:  Terry and Jo's couch

We also have a 2010 Mobile Suites, we were able to remove the feet off the couch, took all the cushions out and get it out of the door without having to remove a back or anything else. Of course, it helped that the buyer had her son and grandson do the "heavy lifting".

We have a 2008 MS and the couch doesn't have a hide a bed mechanism. It has a blow up air mattress which stores in the couch. We remove the cushions and lift the cover and take out the mattress. When it is blown up it lays part way on the floor and then steps up to where the head of the mattress is on the couch. We bought the MS uses and I just assumed that that was the way they came in 2008.

We've been considering taking our couch out too. May try it this summer and see how it works.

Thanks everyone, for your replies.  We will turn the couch over & see if there are any obvious indications that the couch may come apart.  I'm not sure what brand of couch it is, but it's whatever DRV put into the rig in 2008.  I know we don't have the air mattress, we have just a regular hideabed.  I know it's going to be a project, no matter how we remove it!
