Yea, I only bring her out when someones there.. My dog doesn't bark.. But I hear ya.

Maybe I will just get a small one.. I doubt the next stop in ft meyers will allow them..but will call..

As noted, each park has it's own rules. Many will allow the small, "playpen" sized set ups, but most I've seen would not allow fencing that much of the lot area -- if there is grass it would make it very difficult to maintain.

Where do you connect the leash?.........Every park I go to has a leash Rule and most areas have leash laws.......so where do you connect the leash.

your dog in a pen is not under physical control........please dont take offense but my mind has 4 or 5 simple scenario's that make pens a bad idea.

I am owned by a pet and know it does not take but a split second for a bad thing to happen......Im a firm believer in 6' leashes.....not the neat little reel type that allow your dog to travel 12' away from you....(.like someone really has control of an animal that has a 12' circumference to run in during a situation) .....the problem with rules and laws is everyone has a want to bend them or break them to there way of thinking..

we all know that animals get loose in parks.......a loose medium or large dog will clear that pen long before you can react........once inside the pen there will be 2 animals not under control and a good possibility it wont be pretty..

I agree with Mike. I've seen the pens and they really don't seem to be designed to prevent animals from jumping out or in.

I like the idea of a fenced in area. I like it better than having my dog on a leash while sitting outside. I think the fencing would be more of a deterrent to an attack by another dog. Yes another dog could jump in, but it would be more work than if there was no fence and our dog was on a leash. We don't leave our dog outside alone. I've seen many pens where dogs were left outside alone. We haven't had any problems with unfriendly dogs yet. 

bottom line....if the law in the area your in has a leash law and you are off your property and forbid something happens......you are at fault

when outside in areas that have leash laws......you must have Full Physical control of the animal......you do not have this in a public place when your dog is in an open pen.......

your neighbors....the kids in the park....all come before your comfort and your pet.

Rules and laws are in black & white.......opinions were used to write them......but once written they are the baseline for everyone and opinions dont count

I have a service dog......while out and about I have been bitten trying to save my best friend.......a month ago I was attacked by a boxer while walking in a park...the dog was on a radio controlled leash,the owner was apologetic because said she pushed the button but it did not work......I left in an ambulance.... not pretty!!!!

If your not home....your animal should be on a leash period its no longer your property and its a strange environment to you and your animal ....you cannot think for the animal or for other predators around your animal......things happen and always will

Most people walk their dogs, take their dogs to the dog walk or run or so we have seen. One of the good things about that is you don't end up with an area on a lot that smells of urine or worse if "business" isn't disposed of quickly. In some soils, this is just not good at all. I would think this would influence a decision by park management. And, if allowed, some people always try to stretch the rules which end up hurting everyone and then no dogs are allowed.

Lucky Mike: So sorry to hear that you were bitten. I agree with everything you have said. Where we live, we still walk and take every possible precaution but still, we are constantly aware that something could happen. I walk my dogs on traffic leads (2') with prong collars so I can control them when other dogs approach and when the pits tried to go after their necks, biting into that did give them pause which I desperately needed at that point.

Coyotes used to eat frequently from the collar end of those 20' leashes in AZ. The owners were so angry that nothing was being done about the coyotes. Yeah, I know. Coyotes are everywhere as are aggressive dogs and other dangers. Sadly, theft and poisoning are other issues that happen more than one would think. We have some seriously crazy people on the loose now. When you move around, you learn it is big world with no two places alike.

 I realize what you are saying, but have you stayed in many rv parks?  I'm only asking because even if you rent a certain site, that doesn't keep everyone and his cat, dog, kids, bicycle off of your lot.  Rules?  Let me tell you about the rules, they generally are very loose and just like in many other venues in life, they don't apply to everyone equally and if I am breaking them and  in general a bully that management is sort of afraid of and you're just the average guy, they are going to encourage you to just let it go.  Parks with longer term residents are very much like your standard S/B neighborhoods and that is what I hope to escape by the way I plan to live the lifestyle.  Now, if you can tie in with a group, not my thing, and settle in a park, you know birds of feather sort, this won't be as evident and there would be more give and take.  If it requires me to "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" and evil is all around, lifestyle doesn't fit me.

I'm guessing that you already know that people that ask that rules be enforced are considered troublemakers for the most part despite where and how they live.  

I mean this in the kindest way because we have spent a lot of time in RV parks in different areas.  I would never want to live long term in an RV park.  Think boondocking so you can drive away for some peace, quiet and privacy.

Most RV parks have rules on pets, you can ask for exceptions but it is their property and if they make exceptions and someone complains, that is usually the end of it.

The RV lifestyle is much more like S/B living than a lot of people think.

I hope you find something that works. If you are renting property, would be somewhat different than an RV park since the RV park would fall under the state/local/county/city law and also have a set of rules, often with dogs they claim that it is an "insurance issue". Also, the more desperate they are for money, like off-season, they can be more flexible and if they have gotten to know you, that can be a help or a hindrance.
