Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Direct tv satv dish ..portable..

Getting reading to order my back up plan to the roof top traveler swm..

Tried searching this out again,, just got more confused..

Looking to have a mobile unit to set up so I am never without SATV.

I need a tripod for the dish.. and believe this is best ones if I remember the posts?

http://tv4rv.com/sunshop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=13

And I believe I need a SL3-SWM dish like this one sit on top?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/DIRECTV-AU9-SL3SWM-3-LNB-KA-KU-COMPLETE-KIT-POWER-INSERTER-8-WAY-SWITCH-FEDEX-/130928637348?pt=US_Antennas_Dishes&hash=item1e7bf475a4

And I should be all set ?

Thanks in advance

Steve:

Make sure you rig has a SWM (single wire multi-switch) antenna on the roof.  Most likely it does as you rig is new.  If you have a DVR and have only one cable going to it then the antenna on the roof is most likely SWM like the one you are asking about.  If it has one while ball (LNB) on the antenna arm then it is SWM as well  (Not all Trav’ler antennas are the same.  Some are not SWM.  Your DTV receiver will work with both types SWM and non-SWM.)

Recall that pointing this antenna can take a bit.  Your source tv4rv.com sells a good product as to antenna and tripod, etc. I recommend you get the complete kit as you may need a power supply for the SWM antenna depending on how DRV wired you coach.  "It depends."  However, the signal meter it sells will not work with a SWM antenna.  It has to do with the “smarts” to tell the SWM antenna how to, in so many words, receive and send signal to the meter.  The little inexpensive meter rv4tv.com sells can’t do this.  Using the directions form tv4rv.com and using the receiver in the coach this solution works.  But it can be difficult until you understand the nuances of the SWM system and the 3 satellite alignment.  Direct TV is the best for RV’s due to all SD programming being on one satellite, but it does require knowledge of how the system works and how to make it work.

So, yes, this is a good choice, but aiming can sometimes be frustrating until you learn the technique.  Then it’s easy. So be prepared and don't get frustrated the first time.

I have what you are proposing for purchase.

Ok.. Thanks.

It is the swm..

I just spotted a couple damaged new .. same Wineguard swm automatic on ebay..

Seems to me I could just set one of these on a pad, and just turn it on? Like the roof top unit ? That would really make life simple.

As you said, been reading the swm can be difficult to line up.

Gonna see how those auctions do.. and then will get this stuff coming.

Thanks again.

Seeing versions from 2.0 - 4.0..

Thanks !

Believe you need version 4 .. the usb plus model.. Guy has refurbished ones on ebay for $230.. just a fyi.

If I'm close to you, and you need to borrow this, just give me a shout. just grabbing it , and a dish kit for emergencies .. if my roof one is blocked ..

Thanks
