Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

3rd Place Winner – 2/0 Welding Cable For RV Battery Cable

I did it, I did it, I feel like a young kid again.
I feel like Steve Martin in the Jerk when he said, my name is in the phone book, I'm somebody LOL ....!!!!
Two places, at the top and then all the way down the page at this site.
At the top my charger.
At the bottom my battery bank.

Thank you Sherry, I was going to put it on the market to sell but it was a lot of work and money to build, I'm scratching my head on this one.
Just looking for when we go on the road to bring in some income, I enjoy doing these things like building battery cables, generator extension cords, troubleshooting electrical problems in RV campers AC or DC volts, I may look into installing solar panels on the road when I finish my own system.
I just need to find my happy place if you know what I mean.
There is ways to make money on the road, just need to find mine.
I don't need to do this but I like to stay busy.

Lonney, there is a real need for someone that can do mobile electrical and solar installs. I did it for many years but stopped. The ability to do a QUALITY job is very lacking out there. Quality work costs a little extra. There are people willing to pay that "little" extra, but you will run into far more that are looking for "bargain" work. My advice is to decline this work. Not only is there little satisfaction and margin in such work, but many (if not more than half) of the people that fall into this category are inclined to think they know all the answers and will cause you no end of grief.

Lonney:

That is a nice, quality “home brew” installation.  Very nice indeed.  Jack’s comments are, unfortunately, more correct than not.  Many times what something is actually worth is just not what some want or can afford to pay for it.

Having built these systems from scratch I know how long it takes to custom up some of the cables and do the routing properly.  If you don’t have the proper crimping tools and a good supply of lugs it can be a very difficult job.  Having those tools and supplies can be a lot of investment.  I had access to a complete electrical shop including a $7,500 crimping tool and die set. If I had to do all this manually it would have been even more difficult.  That’s why I appreciate your work.

Bill

Excuse the typo.  Don't you just love spell correct?

Thank you Bill, That was a very nice complement.
In my workshop I have a chair I bring out and sit down, just look out and in my mind I build things, I'm very good at this, put some ideas on paper then I start to build, I guess I'm hard on myself to build quality things but it just works for me.
I hope I'm not alone and not the only one that does this.
My goal is to be the best I can be and don't build crap, that's all I ask of
 myself.

Lonney

Yeah Lonney I do a lot of stuff with welding cable. More flexible, better quality, nicer to work with, and better end result.
Oh, and Bill......................You shouldn't call him Looney.

That's cool. Looks like an alternator on the right side of the picture. Do you have more pics of the generator?

I love to see a job well done.

Thank you Red, it's a Leece Neville 24 volt with a external voltage regulator, I set it right now for 15 volts, don't set it that high on wet cell batteries, it would boil them away. I have agm batteries that's as high as you should go. Volts in batteries is pressure believe it or not, some is lost in the 2/0 size cable, 2/0 cable is 5/8 diameter with 3300 strands of wire. I read the volts at the charger and at the battery bank.
It takes a lot of torque to turn this baby at 8000 rpms.
Look at my pictures on this site.

Lonney,

Just for informational purposes, with your link, one needs to be registered with RV Village.  If one isn't registered with them, one can't see the photos.
