Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
If you surf the internet , your search engine stores your looking habits and directs ads that may interest you according to your searches. Seeing your an RVer thats what you will get.
it s kinda like the ads at the top of the page.......I searched Cell phones the other day for a couple hours , now I get cell phone ads.
my e-mail addy is on my posts and harvesters (computers that ID) find this addy and send me junk mail.....its part of the internet.
its kinda like your postal box.....junk mail cant be stopped its gonna keep coming no matter what , you just have to sort thru it!!
Of course on the same end ,Im also an Evil one and have a program that I insert the E-mailer that sent me the crap and WALLAh!!!......they get signed up for all kinds of porn ,junk mail & virus applications......(Special Thanks to my M.I.T friends)

My niece checked the Gibson link to see if her Snapchat account was compromised and it was not. Only some Snapchat accounts had problems, and if yours was one than you should change your Snapchat password. But that should not affect your password here unless you used the same username and password and somehow they knew you had an account here (and cared).

Yes. I know about that ad stuff, Mike.
...but, I thought it 'serious' because my anti-virus informed 'confirmation' with a pop-up message, that usually only informs me 'daily' that my anti-virus has been updated.

But, I don't even have a Snapchat account, that I'm aware of, to change the password, Joyce!
Looks like they have you figured out.........time to change all your passwords, delete your accounts, add 2 more firewalls and hope for the best......dont forget the roll of tin foil...........

There are fake pop-ups out there, especially while browsing the internet. They spoof your anti-virus, as Windows update, as Google Chrome update, most of which do not ask you to click on them when they put up a pop up. I have had a couple relatives click on them and end up with bad stuff. If you get a pop up, don't click on it, go to the anti-virus or whatever it is directly.

If you read the article you would find out it was the Skype Twitter account, not Skype that was compromised and it was done the old fashioned way, they got the password from a Skype employee via trickery. With both the Snapchat and Skype problem, no user could have protected themselves. Just like the recent Target security breach, the problem was with those who we safeguard and not ourselves, computers, etc. There is no program you can run on your own computer that will protect you from someone else's problem becoming your own.
Was private information compromised here? I don't think so. Can it get compromised elsewhere? Yes. My best advice is don't use the same password everywhere and mix up the usernames. That way if somehow they get one username/password combination, they don't have them all. I used Lastpass to manage my passwords and yes, it is cloud based. But I need to get to those unique passwords and usernames on my smartphone and my computers. Worth $12 a year to myself and my wife. Opt in to two stage authentication, let them send you a text or email to two accounts to really make sure it is you when you change passwords. More hassle, but much harder for them to spoof being you.

My anti-virus never runs a pop-up. If there is an issue with an incoming message or download the icon starts flashing in the bottom right corner of my screen on whatever that bar is called. I change my passwords regularly.
I prefer low-tech. Yahoo compromised accounts some time back and both of our accounts started sending out spam which didn't originate from us. Then, while our cell phone service was down for updates that took 3 days instead of 1, Yahoo shut down both accounts for investigation. We switched from Yahoo and Sprint. I now see a real advantage to changing email addresses and keeping one for those times that you must give one and don't want to.

I don't like your attitude.
Based on some of your other posts, yours isn't the best either. He is just kidding you.

Mike wasn't serious? I've already gone and purchased my tin foil. I've made my hat and I've wrapped my computer. And now your telling me he was just kidding.
I thought if it was written on a blog or Facebook it had to be true. Oh well as they say on the Verizon commercial, "Bon Jour".

Look at this way, you are ready, either way.
Don't forget the hat for the dog.
