Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

replacing furniture

Hi, when buying a travel trailer or fifth wheel, does regular furniture(non-rv) usually fit through the door pretty easily?

Thanks

It does if you buy smaller type residential furniture. For example we recently replaced the recliners with two from Lazy Boy. The lazy boy recliners come apart for transport the back separates from the seat. The bottoms barely fit through the doors. I amost had to take the reclining handle off so they would fit.

Some RV'ers have removed windows to get furniture in. It's a little more complicated and you need to make sure the window is sealed well once it is replaced.

So far we have brought in a desk (it is only 18 inches deep) and a new queen size mattress (Sleep Number).

If we replaced the sofa we would have to remove a large window that is in our living area.

Have replaced furniture (recliners, sofa and king mattresses) in 2 fivers. As previously mentioned if you get chairs.sofas that the back comes off you will be fine. Before you buy....measure very carefully. What we found was that the depth is critical.

We replaced the original couch and two recliners.  The recliners were replaced by a La-Z-Boy love seat recliner.  The backs came off and it was easy to turn the love seat bottom 1/4 turn so that it was at one side and could easily go in through the entry door.  Just be sure to measure your door at the narrowest point.

We bought a Lane Theater Seating unit from a furniture store, it comes apart in 3 sections, the left seat, right seat and the center unit, all fit through the door of our 5th Wheel with ease.

We did not have to take the backs of or anything else after breaking the unit into 3 sections.

Reassembled once inside, we love it !!!

We replaced the 2 RV recliners with a residential loveseat without any issues. The biggest issue we had was getting rid of the RV couch, getting that out to replace with a small desk and coffee table was definitely more challenging than any of the furniture we moved into the 5th wheel. Definitely ended up with more room and a more livable workspace for both of us.
