OvernightRVParking.com is very legit - it's been in business for many years, and run by a fellow full time RVer Jim O'Bryant. He goes to great length to call each site submitted and verbally verify the details and GPS locations. We do keep a membership there, but frankly - use it less and less. Since they've implemented higher subscription fees, I feel there are less users thus less contributing updates - so the data is getting stale and outdated. On our last repositioning, we went to 3 different locations suggested by the site, to arrive to changed situations and policies. I have noticed Jim on many RVing forums 'listening' for folks to talk about overnight stops so he can update his database. So I give him credit, he's trying.

Also, in a world going app-crazy - the site is not as mobile friendly as I'd like it to be. I'd much prefer the data as an app, but he's been resistant to keeping up with tech.

But for $24 - if you even get one free night a year out of it, its paid for itself. So, we keep our membership. And, everytime we submit an update - he extends us for free for 2 weeks.

Other resources we use for finding free overnight stops include:

www.freecampsites.net - also run by some fellow full timers, free
www.freecampgrounds.com - believe it was bought out by a commercial site, and not nearly as useful as it once was

And of course, the awesome Allstays website and smartphone app. We use that one a lot on our iPhones and iPad.

The Days End Directory available with an Escapees Membership is reported to be great as well, but I have no experience with it.

It would be REALLY nice if there was ONE app/website that listed them all, but unfortunately, I haven't found IT yet. So, like many of us, I have used a few, and then whittled down to our favorites, and use those repeatedly.

Cherie is correct, Jim Bryant is the owner of the subscription web site you mention, and he participates in some of the RV forums Cherie and I also participate in. He has appeared to be very active in attempting to update any information he sees on a post, but it's a big world out there, so am sure he isn't able to keep every single listing 100% current.

But, that's what you'll find with just about any RVP or CPG listing service - paid or free. Most of the folks I know who boondock a lot have developed their own list and keep it updated as they read about a new spot.

The state and federal websites often list BLM lands (more prevalent out west) where boondocking is more common. Some city & counties also list their "public parks" that offer overnight free or low cost parking.

Some of the PAID boondocking or overnight resources I have used (and some still do) I will mention, just because they haven't been mentioned here yet ....of course, all listings are not 100% current as of this minute - so double check first!

WWW.gypsyjournal.net - Nick Russell sells for $25 a 7in1 CD that combines 7 different Word documents of info he has collected over the years of their FT RV travels. Each document lists the information by state for quick reference; Free/Low Cost parking, Casino parking, Fairgounds parking, Dumpstation locations, Favorite Restaurants, Good Guys RV Services, etc.

www.frugal-rv-travel.com - mostly for western states, these are different ebooks sold individually (or as a bundle) that lists many out-of-the way places based on years of this Candian couple's travels. I found some sopts right near our home base I didn't realize were even there!

www.boondockerswelcome.com - started by the above Frugal RV Travel gal and her daughter. Host members offer a space to boondock in their driveway or on their property.

www.harvesthost.com - a membership site that allows paid members to see wineries and family farms - and gives their contact information - for a free overnight stay on the hosts' property.

Hope this helps to give a few more options - there are LOTS of them, just as there are different RVs to choose from and paid RVP to choose from.

Hummm ..Overnight parking.

I know there's a lot of suggestions here about using Walmart parking lots and such.

I found them quite dangerous, being the only RV or vehicle in a huge empty parking lot for overnight.

I felt like a target for any neer-do-wells!

The best secure place to park is, as they say, "Safety in a Crowd".

Despite what people say about 'Truck Stops' ...they are the place to stay overnight.

They have a light friendly atmosphere, the men are respectful, and there's plenty of women around also.

Be careful with posting to older threads. When that happens, someone coming along a little later may think that all the information in that thread is up to date, but sometimes the information isn't.

As for "ignorant" truckers, I guess I used to be one of those. If you ever hauled with an 18-wheeler in the winter, it can get very cold in those sleepers if one doesn't have the engine and the heater running.

Iam referring to the few that leave their trucks running after they pull up along side where iam parked and there is no need

as in not extreme cold etc. they have sleepers with warm beds so yes I think that's ignorant of that driver to do that knowing full well how noisy and stinky his unit is

So if it's hot he can't run his AC? Or he needs to turn off the genset on the refrigerated trailer? If you want a quiet place to rest your head, plan accordingly and find a campground. Otherwise insulting the folks that move everything you touch, eat, use probably isn't a good idea.

Every piece of your Pretty RV........every board of your glorious home......all that food you eat......pretty much if you have it ,a trucker got it there...........he drives all day and nite.......stays out months at a time holding that steering wheel for ungodly hours............gets to maybe see his family and what his hard money earns maybe once a month..............if he needs to idle his livestocking , reefer cooling....desiel belching next to me at nite........I"M BUYING HIS BREAKFAST IN THE MORNING !!!!!!............dont put down the trucking industry until you have sat in that seat and found out that its alot harder than it looks !!!

When I brought my coach up from Florida the generator ran 24hrs, everyday, until we got home.......2800 miles later. Although it is an ONAN QD7500......pretty quiet and not too stinky. If one doesn't want the "Trucker Next Door" then stay over at places/lots that don't allow big trucks to park. Myself it doesn't matter. I enjoy the purr of the Big Rig. After all just a quick overnight then on my way, just like the trucker.

I might go along with the word "inconsiderate" instead of "ignorant." At any rate, as someone else pointed out, find a place where truckers don't go, like a campground or RV park. Both inconsideration and ignorance comes in all forms in many kinds of people.
