Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Need Shore power help

Roni and I attended the rally in Tn and we were about 2 yrs away from becoming fulltimers.  We attended the rally in a rented Class C motoer soon to realize it wasn't big enogh.  Last Sept, We bought a 2005 Dolphin 6355 LX. We are now 1 year away from fulltiming.

I have a problem with the electrical that I need help solving. When I plug into shore power I get no electricity into the coach. I test and proved I have 124 volts at the end of the 25 foot extension cord. I have 124 volts going into the AES w/ESP model 10045-40 but nothing coming out. When I jump the relay switch I have 124 volts coming out. The next box is the automatic line/generator switch. When I jump the relay in the AES box I have 124 volts going into the ATS model 5070 and 124 volts coming out, but still no electricity into the coach. Any suggestion?

You should have a circuit breaker box in the bedroom so you can get to the wires and make sure you have power there.

But when you say you have "no power" is that only at 15/20AMP outlets or does it also mean your fridge, electric hot water heater and air conditioners have no power. It is common for all the 15/20AMP breakers to be on an inverter/charger and if it is off or broken you will have no electric to the outlets but the rest of the RV will. Normally the propane/electric fridge is not on the inverter so if its outlet has power then it is the inverter/charger where the problem lies. Otherwise turn on the electric hot water heater and check it if gets hot (the switch was under the sink in our 2002 Dolphin.)

I got home from worked and checked the appliances. Refrig does not work, microwave doesnt work, not 120 AC outlets worj, no power at the main fuse box. My xantrex inverter/charger has the the charge light blinks once per second. The manual says this indicates no AC power available.

Sounds like a broken wire or connection and you have it isolated so you can find it even if it is a pain to do so. Maybe a pack rat got in and chewed it? Who knows?

I had a similar mystery in my Tioga.

Bill's advice is smack dab spot on here.

Good luck.

Paul & Roni! We met you at the TN rally.  Glad to know you guys have your fulltiming rig and are counting down until you can go fulltime.

One question... what is the AES w/ESP model 10045-40? Automatic transfer switch?  If you have electrical power going into it and not coming out of it that would seem to be the culprit!

Hope to run into you guys on the road sometime... we're now in our 5th month of fulltiming and having a super time!

Do you have 12VDC in the coach? I'm wondering if those relays need 12VDC to operate. Bad inverter, not charging batteries, no 12VDC to energize the relays.

Yes I had 12VDC going into the coach.  I got a retired electrician friend from our church to come out and look at my problem.  He was telling me how his borther in law had the same issue.  The first thing he did was check for 120V ac at the end of the 25 foot power cord.  YEP I had power there.  But when I plugged into the coach, no power into the coach.  Then he check continuity and we discoverd the neutral wire(white) had pulled away from the terminal in the plus.  Reattached the wire, plugged in wire to the coach and whoopi I had power.
