Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
We've started looking at Class A motorhomes with the idea that by early spring 2013 we'll have found the "right one". We've determined that a MH is probably best for us with a "toad" that will also be a vehicle we can use for art shows containing all our booth set up "junk".
My husband is an artist (jewelry) and I work full time and really just need a desk and phone where I can sit in front of my computer all the time. We've found great ideas on retrofitting a desk to create a reasonable work environment for me, but not finding a lot of good ideas for the artistic workspace.
Ideally what we need is 4 feet of worktable space with storage above or below for many of the tools and supplies. Part of the worktable space would need to have a device (or 2 or 3) permanently mounted to the surface. We've looked at a couple of models of class A motorhome that have bunk beds and were thinking we could remove those and create a workshop.
Any other suggestions or has anyone done a renovation to build in worktable? I'd love to see some pictures that might give us some ideas to leverage (yes, that's a fancy word for stealing)! We've already decided some of the really "messy" work such as soldering will just need to be done outside, but don't necessarily want to have to always pull out and set up everything outside, especially if weather isn't cooperating.
Our other criteria is that our work areas not be too close together, when some of his equipment is running there's no hope that I'll hear anything on the many, many conference calls that I have for my job.
Have you thought about a toyhauler? Either in a super C or a 5th wheel. It would provide the space for him, give you seperate office area, and you can carry a smart car or jeep as well.
Just a thought. Do you have a website the he sells the jewerly on?
We briefly considered a 5th wheel, the issue is that we have to have a "show vehicle" for the art shows we do that contains our canopy, weights, glass cases, stands, etc. etc. Right now we have a Toyota Tundra with a cap for the show vehicle and tow a TT for our road trips. After considering our options we think our best full time option is a MH towing our show vehicle. At that time we might trade the truck in for a mini van or mid sized SUV, but can't really get away with anything much smaller and be able to do the art shows.
We thought about the 5th wheel but didn't want to have to load and unload the truck with the show "stuff" before and after every show and also didn't want to have to worry about everything getting wet before we got it back to the 5th wheel if it were raining. Of course, maybe once we get rid of the house we'll only do shows where we don't have to worry about rain year round!! Something to really look forward to.
Thanks I'll take a look at those suggestions. Also just met another RVer who has a MH and tows a vehicle on a flat trailer, he built a custom config of some cabinets and a fold out work table on the trailer. My husband is thinking that would be a great idea, then he can always work outside whether it's the "messy" work or not. Might be a great way to keep the MH from getting to cluttered inside.
Why not get an enclosed car hauler with drop down workbenches. Yes, you would need to get a smaller vehicle, but I'm betting one of those Crossovers would carry your stuff, (roof rack). You can get enclosed trailers with overhead lights, etc. Not saying you have to buy it that way, but go online, look at some of the setups, use what works best for you. Hope you find something that works for you. Looking forward to seeing you on the road and seeing some of the jewelry in person. John
