Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

ROKU on the road?

I was wondering if anyone has tried to bring their ROKU with them on the road & how you have found the WIFI with its use?

I think you may have a problem with streaming movies with a park's wifi. You may be able to watch the movie but the park manager might have issues.

Thanks Ken,
I would imagine a Hot Spot would not work as well either? We have 3G's - I am just trying to get out of sattalite all together (for the rainy days - LOL).

We used our Wii to watch Netflix through the RV Resort WiFi. Most of the time no problems. Once in a while would get some freezing or pixelation.

Also watched Netflix on my iPad using the resort's WiFi. Worked great.

The ROKU should operate similar to the Wii streaming Netflix movies.

Zeo,

Well, let me welcome you to the rolls of active participants here at the RV Dreams forums.  Of course, I know you on SOITC as "Ferdinand."  Over there, we are millerjnt.

Glad to have you with us, and your description of ROKU could be valuable for all of us.  In our case, I don't think we watch enough movies and such to make it worthwhile.  On Direct TV, I spend more time on Military Channel, Discovery, History Channel and a few more.

But, since you say one can record off the satellite and watch later, I may have to consider ROKU some.

Terry

Thank you Lurker! I will have NO problem cutting the cord with Dish at all. So far we are enjoying in the S&B, have not tried RVing yet, that will really seal the deal. We have 3GDroids to tether as well.

'Suh-weet' is writer's license for the spelling of Suite, as in Mobile Suite or Elite Suite as 01zeosix owns one of those models.  Also,  sometimes here in the south, the word "sweet" is also extended by saying something like "that baby (insert almost any object for 'baby') is suh-weet," or "that truck is one 'suh-weet' ride."

WiFi Ranger is a product related to receiving or amplifying WiFi signals.

WiFi host is any source providing WiFi, such as a campground, RV park, or business.

Reading some of the answers to the above question had me wondering if we are on the same planet.

I have Roku HD units in my S&B and two in the Suh-Weet...Is this like a bug invasion?

I stream through my WiFi Ranger...Now this sounds like a personal problem...

not able to grab a Wi-Fi host...This could be a federal offense...

I have Netflix, HuluPlus and Amazon...You don't need to be Boondocking with these kinds of problems...Stay in town.

One lost reader...

Speed Hitch,

LOL (laugh out loud) !

The S&B means Sticks & Bricks as best as we can tell. Not too sure about the Shu-Weet = so we do not want to guess.

I am very hopeful we can have great sucess with the ROKU. Thanks for your feedback.

Depending on a fast enough wifi signal at an RV park is not something I would want to do. You may have it at some parks, but if you travel much you will find wifi to be an iffy solution for streaming. I CERTAINLY would not give up my DTV and depend on wifi only for my TV. Well - not if I wanted to watch much TV. As I said, it may work well in a few places, but in general it is not an "available" enough solution for me. In my opinion.....but I do monitor park wifi speeds and availability wherever I go, since I was in that business.

I think Speedy's tongue was planted firmly in his cheek with his statement. As for me all that techy talk makes my eyes glaze over.

Having known Speedy on the forums these last few years, I am positive that tongue was firmly planted sideways.  However, he did mention the one term (suh-weet) that many might not have fully understand.
