Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

GPS TRACKING - show your friends and family your location

I just see a flyer on GPS tracking - kinda like your own personal LOJACK unit, only this device uses the internet to show YOUR location and can page endusers various selected way points waypoints. The device plugs in to the test plug already in your car or truck.

I was think I should get one of these devices installed in my truck and that way the kids will always know were mom and dad are at while we are on the road. The question I have for everone is - Has anyone ever tried to use these devices and how much do they cost per month or is there just a onetime cost.

And for all you HAM radio guys using APRS systems would this be any better or worse?

Any feed back would be helpful.

Thanks

Dennis / not fulltime yet but will be in about 1 year...

There are lots of these units out...all have slightly different features and costs.

If you have an Android smartphone you can use Google Latitude to do the same thing....for free.

Thanks - the thing the intreged me was the kids can just go on line and see were we are at and if the Truck ever does get stolen and you can locate it with and tell if the motor is running - gives you speed and direction and all if this takes place in less than a min. I just an idea right now and i just wanted to hear some feed back from more experanced people. So thanks for your feed back.

:)

We also use Latitude. We can choose to turn it on or off very easily and just let those we really want to know...where we are located. When we go full-time in the next few weeks my wife is going to offer cake-baking and decorating services and we will use tools like Google maps to let people know (via our web site) where we are in case there is any interest. - Art & Mary
