Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
I'm sure most of the members here have noticed that Cradlepoint has released a lot of new routers recently under a new NetBSD platform. We just put together a written review highlighting the new NetBSD features as well as a video walkthrough showing off some of the differences.
If you're looking into getting a Cradlepoint router, I'd highly recommend considering the new NetBSD platform because it's going to be the lead platform from now on.
However, don't worry if you're on an older model as they'll still be supported through 2011. They just won't receive updates as fast and support will be dropped within the next year for new modems.

Well remember that the MBR900 was released around August of 2009, which is close to the 2/yr mark now and if they run a full year past this latest news that will be about a 3/yr product lifespan.
I think a 3/yr support timeframe is pretty reasonable for consistent updates every 2-3 months with support for new devices. If you compare that with other manufactures like Apple it's inline with how long they support products with iOS updates.
Can I buy an MBR900 today? If so, will the support run out at the end of this year?
Yes, but not from us, we've sold out of them and won't be buying anymore MBR900's. Cradlepoint hasn't released an official end date for support, I just know it will be within the next 6 to 12 months. And if you've already purchased a modem it's not that big of a deal, it's just when you'd be upgrading years down the road you'd have to replace the router. It's not going to just stop working with hardware that's currently compatible.
So Matt, we were planning to get the MBR1200 since I think it's the only router that will allow us to use our Sprint S720 aircard. Which one do we need in the new line up?

I wasn't... I was commenting on the state of the IT industry as a whole the cost of supporting older platforms can be high. The days of a five to seven year support cycle are gone. The turn over in support centers is simply too high to support it. Three to Five is becoming common in the Enterprise class systems.
For the retail IT providers frankly churnning the tech is one of the ways they make their money. After three years use you have an issue and can no longer get support it forces the upgrade.
In all levels of IT forcing the upgrade has become part of the landscape. (this is in part driven by offshoring but I don't want to start a political / economic conversation)
