Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Does anyone have a problem with Firefox, specifically getting  Page Load Error and Address Not Found messages?  I seem to do relatively ok accessing an internet address early in the day, but the longer I have the computer on the harder it is to access a site.  Sometimes I will hit the Try Again box several times and get lucky, but more often than not I just wait and try again later, and later, and later.

Because it isn't so bad when I first fire up the computer it makes me wonder if there are temp files taking up memory and crowding everything else out.  I have tried deleting some of the cookies, at least the ones I know are just ad counters, but don't want to clear the entire bunch because then I won't be able to access any sites if I lose all my userids & passwords.  I have a feeling that the computer was never loaded & set up properly to begin with, and that is something I can't do myself.  Any ideas or suggestions would be welcome.  thanks.

Can't help with the technical stuff, but I keep multiple browsers on my computer and switch if one seems to get cranky. My new favorite is Google Chrome, very clean interface and very fast.

First make sure Firefox is up to date with the menu item "Help->check for updates".
After that go to the menu item Tools->Add-ons and disable all the extensions and plug-ins and restart Firefox. See if that helps. You can turn on the ones you want one at a time. Many of these extensions and plug-ins are needed on the internet to view web pages and videos.

Yes, I was experiencing problems with FF3.0. Turned out to be my internet connection via my Sprint aircard was the culprit. I always seem to have problems when not on the Sprint network.

What is your internet connection Gypsy? And what OS are you running under, XP, Vista, Mac...I might have a couple things you can try but need to know your setup.

My desktop operates under Windows XP and my laptop uses Vista (but I don't use the laptop if I don't have to).  I access the internet using an AT&T air card, but I experienced the same problems back when I had broadband, which is why I thought it might be the way my computer is set up.  Thanks for any suggestions, NorCal.

If you haven't done it in a while I would do a cleanup first on the XP machine:

Start -> All Programs --> Accessories ---> System Tools ----> Disk Cleanup

It will first calculate how much space it can free up...tick all the boxes then click ok. it will ask if it's ok, say yes. Depending on how long it's been since you last did this it may take a few minutes to complete.

This will clean up your drive of un-necessary clutter. Note that it will also clean out the recycle bin. I know some people like to use the recycle bin as a place of last resort for files (not a good idea). I recommend if you want to keep something, do not put it in the recycle bin.

Once that completes then defrag the drive.

As a test, have you tried using IE instead of FF to see if you still experience problems? It would help to narrow down the problem to your computer or the internet connection.

I can't help with Vista...never had it and don't want it...way to many people having serious problems requiring a complete re-install of the OS. The few I have seen myself had problems with the automatic updates not completing successfully.

Sounds like a connection problem from your description. If both IE and FF do the same when you switch between each as suggested, then it makes sense.

FF can be set up to delete cookies and other stuff that you individually choose in the Tools menu. Click on Tools -  Clear Private Data and then put checks in the boxes that you wish cleared when closing FF. When it's closed you will get a Pop-Up window on the desktop screen which asked you if you wish to clear at that time.

It seems to be working a little better now.  I followed the suggestion of running Disk Cleanup and got rid of quite a few items; ran Disk Defrag (which I do periodically anyway) and it tells me I don't need it.  I should probably get some additional memory chips.  Thanks to all who have volunteered suggestions.
