Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
I talked to a real estate agt this afternoon, who will come by my house on Friday to see what I need to do to sell, and what I can reasonably expect. The market is down here in the Asheville area, but not in my price range. I own a 3 br/2 ba doublewide on 3/4 acre, so it might just appeal to a young couple trying to start outwho can't afford a huge mortgage. When I think about what I might realize from the sale, I think I will have to look at a used RV rather than new. I'm still overwhelmed by all the choices out there, which all sound wonderful to hear the mfr's viewpoint, and will admit I have fallen in love with Americana just from their website. Oh well, I will probably have to step off the cloud.
I need lots of advice, from how I can keep my residency in NC without actually living here or being able to give a friend/relative's address, to questions about which RV & truck might serve the needs of a single woman who already lives a simple lifestyle, but who has a long way to go towards simplifying enough to live in a 26-31ft RV! With two dogs I might add, who total 120#.
I'm so keyed up just to have made this first step that I may take off to outer space! gypsy

Hey Gypsy Girl! We too travel with two dogs and we are in the process of getting ready to put our house on the market. Should have done it last year before we left for Florida, but after closing my business and liquidating all that stuff---I was POOPED! As to your questions---ask away, there is a lot of knowledge in this group. I do have a question for you---Is there a particular reason you are trying to keep your NC Residency? Most of us go through some type of mail forwarding service and have chosen a state which best suits our needs---like no state income tax, lower plate fees, insurance etc. I don't know a lot about NC, but if you want to keep your residency there I would think the first thing you need to do is find out their residency requirements. Some state require that you actually be there a minimum amount of time to claim residency and I'm sure there are other requirements as well. As to getting rid of all that stuff, you will find it is much easier than you think. Just keep your eye on the goal---the freedom of the road!

I suppose the main reason for my wanting to keep NC residency is that I am retired Civil Service, which means that the Federal govt & all but about 6-8 states tax my pension as income. I don't (and will never) receive social security. NC doesn't tax me, nor would TN, NY, FL, Nevada, NH (I think), PA (with some stipulations I believe) - and at least one in the deep south. I don't consider my local taxes to be all that bad, comparatively. I will look into NC's exact requirements and see what I come up with. I feel strongly against a state taxing my only source of retirement when they wouldn't tax me if I had paid into the social security system. At least it was that way when I retired. Governments are always looking for a source of income. gypsy

Sherri and I just sold our house in Texas. We full time in our 5th wheel and I still work until February of next year. We want to welcome you to our family and if we can help you in any way please post your questions here. We have so many people with so much experiance I know you will find the answer to any question you might pose. Good luck to you and don't worry about USED there are some good buys out there now with the cost of fuel rising your part timers are dumping their RVs back on the market. Take your time and shop you will be OK.
I'm signing the papers tomorrow and the house will be listed on Monday, Jul 28th. I am alternating between enthusiasm and sheer terror! I can't buy an RV or truck until I sell the house, and I'm still undecided about what to get. Did any of you who have already gone through this flipped back and forth like I am? To tell the truth I'm scared to death.
I'm leaning to a smaller 5th wheel, but once in a while I begin thinking it would be so much easier to pull into a campground in a Class C and just park it, and same when leaving, just drive off. But I guess I'm getting ahead of myself and should just wait to see if I get an offer on my house.

Just my personal opinon I would be looking at a Class C as I told you before. I think a fiver being single would just be to much alone with a truck also. JMO Good luck in whatever you decide. I think you will find some very nice Class C' s out there. You might want to ck on blog that a single gal does with a class C by herself. Her blog is Diary of an Adventurous Lady. You can google it. She is fantastic traveling alone with her class C. oh and a her "Cat". southwestjudy
