Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
We have 2 miniature schnauzer kids. One of them is generally friendly to other dogs, but the other is more likely to act a little aggressively to some, not all, other dogs. He's usually fine after the first or second meeting.
To be on the safe side, I keep them both on a very short leash and control them closely in "heel" when walking them to the dog area of campgrounds. However, I notice some people use those "flexi-leads" that allow their dogs to get about 16' away, which means they have little control over them.
We've had some "bark and lunge" incidents with these loosely controlled pups. Both of my dogs have been through several courses of obedience. Even so, it's still hard to control my dogs when other dogs come at them, even if they are just being "friendly".
Has this happened to you, if so, how do you handle it? I usually let people know that my male is not usually dog friendly and ask that they not let their dog come too close. Or, I try to avoid the dog areas when there are lots of other dogs around.
We have 2 dogs we full time with. One of our dogs is also agressive and we have a sign on the rv "bewhere of dog" he does NOT like people coming up to our rv or other dogs for that matter. I found a dog gadget that I push the button on but only a dog can hear it, for control and well this helps sometimes. As far as the flexi-leads we use them along with a short one for this dog. When people ask is he is friendly we say not always as you will never know how your dog will respond in certain situtations. You can and usually I do apoligize for any bad manners that my dogs may have when walking them around others. If other dogs are using the dog areas in the park when we want to use it we simply go the other way or walk in a different area. The most important thing for an agressive dog is exercise....as you well know if you have seen Cesar Millan on tv with his show the "Dog Whisper".I am now reading Cesar's book titled "Ceaser's Way". We also do find that most RV'ers travel with 2 to 3 dogs...amazing! southwestjudy & Bob & 2blackdogs
