We are planning a trip to Puerto Penasco during March. What do we need to know? Where is the best place to stay in a 5th wheel? What do we need to know about taking our rig into Mexico? We always appreciate your feedback.

No one responded but we did the research and made the trip for Spring break. Great place to visit and easy to get there. Most important thing was to get Mexican Liability insurance on the vehicles. Puerto Penasco also known as Rocky point is in the Sonora Tourist Zone so little else is required except for your own drinking water. The place is very americanized unlike some Mexican destinations but once you cross the desert and reach the coast the beach, fishing, and many other activities could keep us busy for a long time. We just had a hard time coming home. This is a great place to get you feet wet in Mexico because you don't need a visa, car pass etc. and it is only 63 miles from the border.

I, for one, had never heard of Puerto Penasco.
Sorry no one replied to your inquiry. We're still building that membership base with increasing knowledge and experience.
Thank you so much for coming back here and posting your own findings. I don't know of many other forums where anyone would have done that.

Thanks Howard. We enjoy the forum and your blog.
We figure it might help others to know we figured it out and had some info just in case they might want to make the trip. There are a very diverse group of members in this forum which makes it more interesting.

You will hear lots about Rocky Point when you come west. This winter many have been there and all seem to enjoy that area. It is called a "free Zone" where Americans can go and enjoy the place. I am trying to get hubby to go there for at least a visit next winter. I have heard good reports about it. Like camping on the beach and very friendly. southwestjudy & Bob & 2blackdogs

Wow, I applaud your spirit of adventure! We live in Tucson and go to Puerto Penasco but never during spring break.
It is a great place to visit but is becoming a bit too Americanized. Those of us who have visited there for years miss the sleepy little fishing village. But, time marches on.
In 2009, the crossing requirements will change and will require a passport. Mexico is just as safe as any place in the US and you will find the people very friendly. If your only contact with Mexico is border towns try someplace further south and see what you think.
