Leaving for Ft. Wilderness on 12 January, will be there from 14-20 January. Lucky for me my leave was approved and I was able to get a reservation. It's our favorite campground, this time of year off season, it's $55/night for FHU site plus cable.
This is our 10th trip to Disney World in the last 30 years, 5th time at Ft. Wilderness. We honeymooned at Disney World 30 years ago on our motorcycle and tent, complete with a "Just Married" sign on the Gold Wing.
This is our first time by ourselves since we first visited. If you're around Ft. Wilderness, please drop in, we're the Winnebago Adventurer with the "R-SANITY" license plates.
Best Regards!

We just love Fort Wilderness! There is so much to do there and you don't even have to go to the theme parks. I feel like it is such a safe place for the kids. They stay out until around 10:00 (11:00 for the oldest) swimming, riding bikes, or going to the campfire movies. There is so much to do. We have been several times and we always try to stay in the same loop (close to the pool) We use hand held walkie talkies to communicate with everyone.
Have a wonderful time! Wish we could go. We were there this past Feb.

Help !! We dont seem to be able to get reservations @ Fort Wilderness for the week of Thanksgiving.
My question is ,does anyone know of some really nice parks close to Disney that can handle a big 5'ver. We want to take the two oldest grandkids to Disney !

FIrst of all, Tropical Palms is the closest nice campground to Disney, it is right outside the gates. Call and make a reservation.
Then keep calling the Disney Reservation line first thing (8:AM EST) in the morning, that is when they post the previous days cancellations. Keep trying and trying, you just may be able to score a site in Ft. Wilderness, then you can cancel Tropical Palms.
It may be several days or even weeks before you get a FW site, but keep on trying, it is worth the effort. Don't use the Disney website for FW reservations, just call and call. People tend to have to cancel at the last minute, so don't give up.
Good Luck!

Thanks Paul,
I'll try that, we did get some reservations at a KOA nearby with a free shuttle to Disney, but there's nothing like staying at Fort Wilderness.
