Hi to all, We are now in our Winter home, we are in Mission Tx. Its 86 degrees and the humidity is 31. Hard to beat that, got home yesterday and it was nice to see the signs saying welcome home Winter Texans. Hooked of the HDTV system yesterday and this morning hooked up the Hughes Net HN 7000s system, life is good in the Rio Grande valley with my beautiful wife. If you haven't been to the Valley or out West (Arizona) in the winter it's very nice. We tryed Florida, well it didn't long to realize we were on the wrong side of the Gulf. Lots more room and not as much sand. Shorts and Tee's all winter. Hope everyone has a great Winter....GBY All.

What didn't you like about the Florida Gulf Coast? Just curious as we live in Naples and don't think there is a better place to spend the winter if you want to be warm and not have to worry about turning on the furnace more than 4 or 5 times from Dec. to Mar. The humidity is low this time of year and it rarely ever rains from November to April.
Granted, the traffic gets a bit heavy here during the winter, but I would think that's true in any of the nice warm parts of the country that time of the year.
I have read on other forums that the wind never stops blowing in the Rio Grande Valley. Is that true or just some one's gross exaggeration?

We were in the Florida Keys, Key West area just not what we were looking for. We like the Naple's area just a little to expensive for us.
Yes the wind does blow in the RGV, but not all the time. The temp today was in the upper 80's and low humidity. Its 11:40 p.m. and its 63 degrees great sleeping weather. I didn't mean to dis Fla. We also spent last Dec. in Destin at Top Sail, a very nice RV park. We were also in Daytona last year. But we don't have to worry about Snow or cold weather and for sure no Hurricane's. GBY......
P.S. I know it doesn't get to cold or snow in Fla.

That explains it, Key West is a strange place! It's fun to visit there and watch the sunset, but too crowded and too expensive for camping. Yes, Naples is not cheap as far as buying real estate, but otherwise the cost of living isn't much worse than other areas. Gas is too high here, still around $2.40/gal and the campgrounds and resorts tend to charge more also. We don't drive too far and try to stay in COE campgrounds or State Parks so we don't notice the higher prices.
This morning the temp is down to 57 degrees F due to a cold front that swept through. That's a little cool for November, but the highs will be in the 70's today, but cooler mid to upper 60's for the next few days.
Thanks to El Nino there was not one hurricane that hit the U.S. mainland this year. Hopefully, the last two years were a fluke and won't be repeated for many years. Prior to Wilma last year, Naples hadn't had a hurricane hit here since Donna in the mid-1960's. My parents lived in Venice, about 90 miles north of here for over 25 years and had one close call with a hurricane back in the 1970's.
We are hoping to travel much more in the near future, but still plan on coming back to Naples for the winter to stay warm!
