This past summer we took a trip for a couple of weeks and in two different campgrounds they were set up so that the doors on our rig and our neighbors rig were facing each other.  Tony said it's probably set up that way for easier plumbing purposes. The first campground was OK, our neighbors were friendly but at the second campground the people next to us shut their door and closed all their blinds and never said one word.  Glad we were only staying one night there. When we saw where they were having us park we should have tried to get another spot right away as there were plenty of other spaces but we didn't think about it till our neighbors closed up.  Really made us feel odd. 

Just wondered if anybody else has stayed at campgrounds like that and if you like that kind of setup?  

 

 

 

We worked in a KOA last year in Minnesota and the majority of sites all faced the same way. We did have a few that were door to door for people that were camping with friends. Otherwise we did not normally put people in those sites unless they wanted it or we were out of other sites. Being door to door with strangers is a little akward (sp). No matter how I spell that it looks wrong! :)

I think the set up is called "side by side hookups" because your electric/water/sewer is "shared" on one side and the patios are very close on the other side. We try to avoid these campgrounds. In the Trailer LIfe Campground catalog or online they list side by side...usually close quarters.

We did just stay in Roswell NM at Town and Country RV with side by side. However the sites were long and IF they put someone beside you the door/patio would be offset, like you are nose to tail. But the sites were very narrow and fortunately the campground not full so we had no one on either side.

So just look out for side by sides!:)

 

We have stayed in a place like that before. I think they called it a group camping spot or something like that. It was great for us, as we were camping with some family, so we could face our doors and awnings toward each other and use the area between our motorhomes as the gathering area.

Every one has their preferences of course and that is the way it should be.  We sort of prefer the side by side facilities.  We consider it an opportunity to meet new people and make new friends.  I know that some folks will close up tight and not seem very friendly but we have found that to be the exception rather than the rule.  In one instance while camping in Colorado, we met some nice folks from Louisiana.  At first they had thier rig closed up tight and didn't even speak when we said Hi.  They were running their air conditioning and kept the shades drawn tight.  We were presistent however, and eventually found that the lady in the unit was ill and the hubby was having difficulty taking care of her.  The rig was closed because she needed climate control for her problems and he didn't speak because he was so wrapped up in trying to take care of her that he felt he had no time to spend visiting with strangers.  I caught him attempting to dump his holding tank and encountering difficulty so I jumped in and helped him.  Needless to say once we knew what the problem was we jumped in and helped him.  He ended up in tears because no one else had offered to help and he was overwhelmed.   When they left we got some really good hugs and more than a few tears.  We now stay in touch via e-mial.  She is doing fine and we look forward to being able to camp with them again.   Moral, one never knows the circumstances that cause people to react the way they do but most people in RV's are friendly people or the lifestyle would not appeal to them.
