In shopping for a DP, I chatted with a salesman who used obvious "scare" tactics to push me into buying now vice waiting a little longer.
As many of you know, 2007 model year diesel engines have to be modified to use only the new Ultra Low Sulpher Diesel (ULSD) fuel for EPA pollution certification.
What extra costs will these diesel engines be over a 2006 model? The salesman claimed $20K more, I almost laughed in his face. Can't believe it would be anywhere near that much. He also claimed terrible fuel mileage and no power.
Also was told there will be a rush on DP sales before the end of the year becasue everyone wants a cheaper, 2006 model engine in their new DP, so there will be a shortage of DPMH's to go around.
Needless to say, this dealership won't get my business, don't take kindly to "BS" sales tactics.
Your thoughts?
Best Regards!

I've done a little bit of research into this and on a pick-up truck it will cost about $800 more over the 2006's and as I've said before I drive a truck and have been looking into that also, on a class 8 tractor with a Cat; Cummins; or a Detroit it can range from $5000 to $8000 dollars is what I'm being told, as for power, yes there will be little bit less however with today's engines I don't feel like that will be a factor, what does concern me is higher maintiance cost because of less fuel lubrication which means maybe more additives and more wear on internal parts. I'm sure you'll get other who have found more out, but I hope this helps a little. Niles & Deb
