On Monday, we purchased a new Cardinal fifth wheel. When we finished our paper work, we were presented with four types of extended warranties. The prices seemed quite outragaeous, so we did not commit to any. We have not taken delivery yet.
Does anyone have any ideas as to whether there are warranties available from other sources? The dealership wanted over $7,000 for these warranties.
Thanks

Al,
Good luck with your new purchase, may it give you years of enjoyment!
If you want an extended warranty (service contract), shop around. These companies charge all different rates and I'm sure you can find one cheaper that offers the same or better coverage. Check out Good Sam's CSP, it seems to be pretty highly rated.
I'd also advise not purchasing one until your manufacturers warranty expires.
I recommend you check out the forum at RV.net and Irv2.com (Sorry Howard) and use their search functions to read pages and pages of information on people that have them and others that choose not to use them.
Some people recommend not buying one and putting the money the policy would have cost you in the bank and earn interest on it. I've read in some RV magazines about people that have had bad experiences with these companies, have had claims denied because the policy holder did not follow the companies rules for filing a claim, read the fine print.
With all that being said, I have a service contract that I bought for about 1/2 of what your dealer is trying to sell you one for. I researched the service contract carefully and it will cover most major components in my RV. After nearly four years of ownership of my MH, I have never used the service contract. However, it is like an insurance policy. You hope you never need it, but if something happens, you'll be glad you have it.
Research carefully, the choice is yours. Don't let the dealer push you or scare you into it.
Best Regards!

Congratulations on a well researched decision. We have an opinion on extended warranty decisions. Consider it like you would consider insurance. If you want no or low deductables and want everything covered then it will cost you. If most repairs would come below the deductable anyway it would no be worth much. If you banked the same amount would it provide essentially the same coverage then you don't need it. So think of it the same way as you do about comprehensive/collision coverage when insuring a car. That in fact is how most extended warranty policies are financially handled. It is just insurance you may or may not need.
With that said if it gives you a needed warnm fuzzy feeling then you will buy it any way. We don't for the above reasons with one added reason. If we thought we were going to need an extended warranty we would buy something else
We also agree with the idea of waiting until the new warranty is out. Then if you think you need add a good policy which others will suggest.
