After using a debit card for 35 years I lost it.  It wasn't in the last business I used it.  It wasn't in my wallet where it belongs.  Not in my clothes, pockets, or places where I put receipts or in my checkbook.  After a day I had to call and cancel.  No strange charges so far against my bank account so that is good.

So how did I lose it.  I don't know but I do realize that I have developed some bad habits and wanted to share them so that you might think about it before it happened to you. 

• I used to always put it in the same place in my wallet after every use.  Lately I have been sticking it into my shirt or pants pocket with the receipt.
• Even that routine was interupted when we are at the restaraunt Sunday when our daughter called on the cell phone just as the bill arrived.  Jokingly she ordered a pound of crab legs for desert while I was messing with the bill. Ha! Ha! but I couldn't tell you anything about what I did with the card right then but some how I did get home with the receipt.
• Looking through my wallet was embarrasing as I fished ought old expired credit cards, insurance id's, miscellaneous junk, so much that my wallet is coming apart.

Oh well I'll get over it.  But getting a good routine, staying orgainized, and not being interupted applies to a lot more that just hitching and unhitching.

Don't be to hard on yourself I do it all the time.  Seems to go through streaks with me, not sure why either.  New surroundings, something out of the ordinary in life, one thing I do know is:  Not aging cause I am never getting old.  hehehe

I bet it was left in the ATM. You recieved your cash and forgot to finished the transaction.

It is at the bank sitting in a safe place.

Well the card never showed up even though we retraced our steps and querried the last business location used.  But it was canceled and replaced with a minimum of hassle.  Sure glad we noticed it quickly.  Even though the liability is limited it is a hassle to deal with any unauthorized charges at locations that don't use the pin number.

One time our son came to visit us at a camp ground we were in not too far from home. We all went out to dinner and my son gave the waitress his debit card and I gave her mine. We got the cards back at the same time, signed our respective bills and put our cards away. He went back home and we continued our vacation. In a couple of days I got a call on my cell phone. Mom! Are you using my debit card?????? Of course not, why would I use your debit card!? When I took a second look, sure enough. We had switched cards (they are from the same credit union and they look alike.) It wasn't so bad for me, but he lives from pay day to pay day and my vacation purchases sure did't help his budget. I had to quickly call the bank and transfer the funds from my account to his account to cover the purchases I made. It goes to show you how closely people pay attention to the names on a credit card and the signature they get. We have the same initials, but we certainly don't have the same name!! I make sure that I look at the card that is returned to me now. Lucky for us that we lost our cards to each other and not to strangers!!
